Deck of the week group - Week 4 - 27th Aug - 3rd September

Essjay

I'm finding the Shadowscapes so wonderfully chilled out and soothing. It's such a great deck. Also, like the Paulina, there's so much detail that you see new things even when you get the same card. it!

Chiska

I just love that KissaTarot. Everytime I pull it out for the Mandrake Cat Exchange, it is just amazing. This is the first time (for this week) that I have used it for myself and it seems to have the same flavor of reading as it does when I use it for others.

This deck always makes me feel confident in my abilities for some reason! And it is all in Finnish - and I wonder if that is part of the reason? My Victorian Romantic is in Russian and I enjoy reading with it as well. Hmmm!

I love that there are so many using the Shadowscapes. I had it, but I just couldn't connect with it as a reading deck - even after its allotted week and a few other readings. I was happy to send it along to somebody who really appreciates it! I did get to see the artists work in larger format when at BATS. The artwork is really beautiful!

Manda

I am very much enjoying my week with Twilight Realm: A Tarot of Faery. I have not used it much before, because I secretly judge myself a but for being so into fairies :D but it is quite readable, despite it's velvet painting bad rap.

I sort of see this deck like a negative (not bad, but like photo negatives) version of the Transparent Tarot although they are completely different artists. Some of the symbolism is minimalist, but some cards are lush with symbols, and they seem to balance well in readings, negative space with images.

Shadowscapes

I was wondering what the others who are working with Shadowscapes think of the companion book.
I only use it now to look up any details I might have missed. The 'stories' is not really to my taste. She writes good I guess just that it is with a very 'young' voice.
But then in a way so is the art. all very 'shimmering, crystaline, undulation, liquid and full of glee' all at once :p
Still, I gotta love the effort of actually making a book like that one. I am just thinking I might not be the target audience.

NikkiB

I have the shadowscapes book but don't use it althought its useful for more picture detail. I don't like any story companion books. I really don't like companion book for waking the wild spirit as that's sTory like to..

Tarot Fairy

I use the companion book to read why the picture is the way it is and i love the one with the shadowscapes just because of the stories ;-)

The book isn't by the deck artist, but a Llewellyn employee, Barbara Moore. She posts here occasionally. It must not be in very big letters, one of the Amazon reviews is about how well the deck artist writes :)

I must say, when you all talk about the decks you are currently working with (which is, of course, the purpose of this thread) I become strongly tempted to go grab those decks and play with them too. :( I am having a hard time being faithful, although I haven't strayed yet. Why am I so fickle. I am even enjoying my current deck and am having an easier time with it than I expected, yet the voices of other beautiful decks call to me. *sigh* I really like the Sun and Moon, Shadowscapes, and VR decks.

I have been happily playing with the Eclectic and writing in my journal (but have grown lazy in posting). The pip cards having been speaking to me much clearer than I expected. I suppose it is in the pattern the artist drew them that gives me hints to their meanings. I can't believe we will soon be starting on our 5th week. Wow. I never expected to stick with it this long. LIke I said - fickle. :D

Manda, this deck has been on my want list for some time. You are causing me to move it up to the top. ;)

ETA: I may be dating myself, but the Queen of Cups from the Twilight Realm reminds me of original VJ, Nina Blackwood.

Actually AJ - all the information (including the stories) about the cards IS by Stephanie Pui-Mun Law.(pp17-244)

The Introduction to the book is by Barbara Moore. (15 pages)

At the end of the introduction Barbara Moore says: 'And now it's time to take a peek into the notebook of the artist, to get her ideas, full of wisdom and beautifully written, about the cards she's so magically and carefully created.'

The only lack of clarity is about who put together the spread details at the end.
