Where do you read?

janie144

My apologies if this topic has been covered I did a search but couldn't find anything.

My house is very busy, there is always sombody coming or going, we have a teenager still living at home who is often in and out with his friends as well as two youngsters 3 and 7 years old, two dogs, two cats, and my husband is self employed and so works funny hours therefore I find it quite difficult to find a quiet space in the house to get some time alone to spend with my cards, and if I wait till the kids are in bed I am usually too tired myself.

So I read in the living room on the settee or in the kitchen on the worktop or sometimes in my bedroom on the bed, anywhere I can find a quiet space really, but does this affect my readings? How important is consistancy?

Where do you read?

Alas!

In the house my first husband and I occupied I was able to have an ENTIRE ROOM dedicated to my Tarot studies! I miss it so much! A round table with two chairs, book cases for the decks and books, sound system for music, incense for burning! In one corner I also had a low bureau I used as an altar with a large mirror attached to the wall behind it!

It's a long time gone ... :(

I read anywhere. Really. On the floor, at my desk, on my bed. In the metro platform waiting for the train. On the train. On greyhound buses. In coffee shops. At other peoples' places. In cars. On planes etc. It makes no difference in my reading.

Anywhere...better when quiet, but if it is just me playing with them...noisy places are okay. e.g. Beach/Cafe/Library.

NOTE: At home with my PC, in front of the tv on a coffee table in the lounge, or on my bed.

Since I live alone, I don't have that problem. I have two reading spaces, one here by my computer for online readings, and one in what would be the Dining Room (I have an eating nook that I use for meals by the kitchen). There I am set up with books and notebooks and do my personal readings, taking the time to not only write out initial thoughts but make notes and reflect back on how things actually unfolded.

Dont get me wrong I wouldn't swap my crazy mad family for the world, I know one day they will be all grown up and moved out and then I will probably have more peace and quiet than I can handle, but sometimes I just wish my bedroom door had a lock on it :D and maybe some soundproofing too :D:D

@ tarotbear That room sounds like a dream, I am not surprised you miss it :(

I like reading at work, at my desk, in the early morning before the working day starts. I get to work at about 7.30 a.m. and have time for one reading before the mayhem begins. Doing a reading is a great way to start the working day.

During holidays I read at the kitchen table, with my husband banished to the sitting room but dogs welcome to stay with me :).

I read anywhere, really. I'm playing a major part in raising my great-grandson who is teething right now, plus I have a teenage grand-daughter I've already mostly raised and her sister, mom to the baby, who still lives at home that I also raised, and my daughter who lives and works at home. Throw in a dog and cat. If I couldn't just read the cards amidst the melee, I'd be sorely out of luck. I love my cards too much, though, so I carry on. (Stagger on, maybe? :p )

My house is tiny so I usually use a small fold up table that is front of the sofa, basically used as a catch-all for the tv remotes and other random stuff. Of course, I have then move everything off of it first. Or I use the bed. We also have a dining room table - I'm not sure why I don't use that, probably because someone is using it to eat or it's covered with homework/art projects.

I also have an open carport area that I sometimes use - if it is clean. The downside is the wind, the heat, and I also have to wipe down the table first.
