Deck of the week group - week 41 - 11-18 May 2012

Chiska

Big adjustment from Tarot of the III Millennium to the Tarot of the Silicon Valley. :bugeyed:

I appreciate that there are only 70 cards. 1-8 for each suit. I get the point, but it would have been better if they had been numbered 0-7. :D

There are correspondences between the SV majors and the RW majors - but in some cases, there has been considerable poetic license.

However, it makes sense to me on an interesting level. I enjoy the humour and will enjoy the deck over the week. I don't know how it will be for reading...so I should head over to the circle thread and give it a whirl!

Elemental Tarot, Caroline Smith and John Astrop, 1988

I'm thinking this is the oldest deck I've kept after my three years of spring and fall clearouts.

choose what your heart tells you. I don't get the random generator at all :)
If only my heart would talk clearly...
This is actually the first time that I don't feel like working with any of the suggested decks. So far, the random number generator has brought up at least one deck (or on-deck) that seemed interesting, or a challenge, or a treat, or something.
This week, however, I don't feel up for any challenges, and I don't feel drawn to any of the suggestions for another reason.

This morning, I pulled one card from both the Celtic Shaman's Pack (Otter) and the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot (Marie Laveau/High Priestess), looked at it for a bit and then read the material from the companion book. They were interesting, but still nothing grabbed me.

Cat*, do you have a set of runes????
You could also make a simple set....
I have one or 2 toooo many and could send one?
No, I don't have any runes, yet, but I have just ordered a book to start learning about them (I don't see how I would be able to read the runes intuitively without any clues about their meanings, although it might be an interesting exercise).
If I feel that I can at all relate to the runes, I would eventually like to make my own set. But thank you very much for offering me one of yours!

I think I'll just take a break this week and see if I end up being interested in any particular deck. Otherwise, I'll just play around a bit. That seems a good choice right now.

It's the Science Tarot for me this week. Interesting as I've never used it, and though I liked it when I flipped through, I feel like there's going to be a lot of LWB consultation this week!

Cassandra022

Had a nice time with Sheridan-Douglas, but first draw with the Pagan Cats, and my first reaction was - its nice to work with a deck that I can properly SHUFFLE again. Lol. LS cardstock is nice, though...

Penthasilia

Did my first readings with the BoGos (LMAO- sounds like an old 80's band)- anyway, I REALLY like the pewter one! Wow- they are so different. The silver is very cold and dreary- the pewter is so warm and rich. But more importantly- I can do intuitive readings with the pewter, whereas the silver is much more of a struggle.

To me, the only downside of the pewter is that the gilded edges will eventually get yucky- but, oh well, doesn't bother me a bit. I will just have to get a back-up somewhere along the line. So- the BoGo silver will most likely be on the trade block at the end of the week. No sense in having two, and (for me) the pewter wins- no contest!

:D

Tomorrow- I will be trying out Wendell's gothic tarot. :)

Okay, since I left my Mary El at home, I am using the Crow's Magick tarot which reads better than I thought it would.

Dame Fortune's Wheel is rather nice. Even though I tend to only pull courts this weekend.

I wish I knew more about Etteilla decks though. Any clue on what to find to read up on them?

Paul Huson's book, Mystical Origins of the Tarot, has a nice Etteilla section. There is a good thread in Historical Research too, if you like combing through details.

Unfortunately there's not a lot of info about him in English. If you speak French, you could search for his texts. Papus might be a good source to look at too. It just depends how far down the rabbithole you want to go. ;) If you just want a website, http://www.villarevak.org/ is pretty good!

I have ended up doing a deck of the week despite my plans not to. Been doing daily draws with my new Il Meneghello Massonici from Penthasilia! :) It has been a long time since I worked with a deck that didn't have people on the cards, but this deck works very well for me because the cards aren't' busy with symbols: just one or a few big, clear ones that I can easily look up and then ponder.

the Grand Etellia is the only deck I've sold I wish I still had. And I've sold/traded/given 100's I'm sure.

And after a week of struggling I've managed to get my printer connected to my laptop. happy camper
I drew the world card, assuring all is well and all will be well :)
