Reading While Drinking

DownUnderNZer

Maybe look at it this way...

Would you want a surgeon or lawyer operating (on) or representing you if they were drunk or under the influence of drugs like heroine or cocaine???

For myself: HELL NO!

I think if "reading" is your career and main source of money, then just like any other job, heavy drugs and/or alcohol should be refrained from as much as possible when in that mode. One or two glasses of wine is fine, even a joint. But I do personally feel that readings definitely can be affected under the influence of anything.

I have come across some intoxicated readers online where their words are slurring and they are all over the place and even going off on different tangents!!! e.g. Spiritual Chatrooms. It is not nice to listen to or to witness...and they might not even be abusive...and YES I have heard that too. Some do GO OFF if the SITTER cant relate to what is being said or if the "reader" cant keep up with the room conversation flow so miss the finer points...thus cursing and swearing as they get paranoid!!!

Try some SPIRITUAL CHATROOMs to see what I mean....:)

New Safety Campaign: DON'T DRINK AND READ TAROT CARDS

I'd imagine that too much alcohol would blunt one's instincts, even deaden them. That's how it works for me, anyway. If I drink to get drunk, my main priority is for the numbing effects of alcohol. Drugs are a different story - as I think different drugs have different effects on your perception and thinking, some good, some bad. Too much of anything is never good, and I probably would not want to pay good money for a reading from someone who was zonked.

I think comparing a tarot reader to a surgeon or lawyer is stretching things to silly levels myself :bugeyed:.

Personally I don't drink and wouldn't want a reading from someone who was drunk but I think a lot of people find that a glass or two of beer or wine loosens them up and they'd probably be better at communicating the message to a sitter after a drink or two whilst others wouldn't.

If it is just you and some friends having a few drinks and doing some readings - then fine. We do a heck of a lot of more dangerous things while tipsy (pick up guys, throw darts, attempt to dance in high heels...)

For a pro reader though, I would expect someone sober, it's their living and you just don't go to work while drunk.

Are we expecting to experience 'visions', enhanced spiritual communication - like peyote, or something? Does one or two drinks loosen your consciousness ... or just your tongue?

Are we 'drinking while reading" or are we 'reading while drinking' ? :D

I've never tried reading while or after drinking, but I doubt if I ever would, especially for other people. For myself it's different. But I seldom drink anymore anyway. I suppose if I had had a drink or two at a party and someone asked me for a reading, I might do it with the caveat that my intuition might be impaired, and as long as it was just for fun that'd be OK, but not a serious reading.

When I used to read at renfairs I was careful to eat properly that morning and the night before, i.e. lots of good food (but not enough to feel logey) and no junk food, and easy on the carbs. If I'm going to be reading for strangers, especially for pay, I need all the help I can get, and that means good nutrition and no hindrances.

I use to drink with my cards, sleep with them, and we make eachother so happy.

Hehe love all the comments pmsl. Seriously if i had a reading from someone who had had a drink then i would probably take the reading with a pinch of salt especially knowing the effects of alcohol, any one knows that after a few bevvies you tongue becomes loose and we tend to say things that are a bit far fetched, on the other hand my gran always had a couple of bottles of beer on the table, people always said she gave a better reading after a couple. I believe if a glass of wine makes a person feel relaxed not pissed then whats the harm, we should know what effect it has on us personally.

To tell you the truth, I am fascinated by the documentary 'Absinthe' and the un-banning of absinthe around the world - purported to make you more 'lucid' - also the name of one of the brands of 'new' absinthe.

Will there be future 'Tarot RUI' - Tarot Readings Under an Influence ?

Is this really necessary?

I've never seen that documentary, but I do think Absinthe should be made more available all over the world. I drank Manson's Absinthe for my 21st, not a lot of wormwood in it but I liked it a lot more than drinking regular alcohol.

I wonder what it would be like to read drinking Absinthe...

I think Tarot RUI already exists, but it's not that big of a deal. As previously mentioned, if you're a professional reader you should probably stay away from drugs/alcohol while reading (for work), but if it's personal or just for fun? I honestly can't see any issue at all.

Now, if the Tarot Police start banging on my door I'd start thinking there was an issue, just for the fact that Tarot Police exist!
