Pathfinders/Truth-seekers Tarot -- differences? Pros? Cons?

Moonbow

Other than the colours I don't use the images on the pips unless something jumps out at me which I feel might be relevant, I use numerology. But yes I agree there doesn't seem any method in them that I can see. They almost put me off the deck but for some reason this deck resonates with me and it hasn't got into my trading thread.

As we all know, all decks have something to offer but apart fromt hat I've found that if I think too much and study decks too hard they become distant and cold so I'm just going with what this deck has to offer, not putting too much thought into the "why's?" of it.

I got the truth-seekers deck and must say I don't like it much. The cards are stiff and feel like they are made out of plastic, the foil looks plastic too. The art is nice, I do like the majors but I don't think there is any reasoning behind the pips at all.
The book promises more then it keeps. I do quite like the packaging, with that sturdy lid box, same as the Shamans oracle.
I really don't think there is a lot to study about this deck, just your run of the mill commissioned artist deck which is fine of course.
Just don't expect it to be all deep and esoteric.

Well, I was thinking the same thing, but I thought I would ask just in case there was something I was missing. I like the deck. The majors are quirky and cute and the pips are very colorful. If this deck was ever in my local TKMaxx, I missed it. I was just in there the other day--after I went to to post office to pick up my Pathfinder Tarot! I paid more than you did, Moonbow, but I'm getting used to that. Some people have a knack for finding a bargain and I'm not one of them. :) Ah well. :)

I won't worry myself about the pips. The deck is cute and I like it. But, still, I'd like to hear from the artist once and for all about what the backgrounds might mean.

Hi Carla :)

I was responding to gregory's question asking what I make of the scenes. I think the question you asked is very relevant because this is a pretty nice deck and one which I think is well worth a try. I also see what jema sees in it in terms of card quality (although thick), so I have riffled and tried my hardest to rough this deck up to make it my own, it's gradually 'relaxing' under my rough treatment, which is something I also like about the deck, it's withstanding a lot of use and is becoming my own. My thumbs hurt though!

Unfortunately I paid £12.99 for mine and saw it in TKMaxx afterwards on the recommendation of a friend. I didn't even know they did decks in there!

gregory

Nor did I but I am close to one tomorrow, so will check. :D

They had a nice Marseilles in mine as well as the Pathfinder's, and there was an oracle deck called something like Angel Spells, from memory. But if you want the Pathfinder's deck this is the cheapest place I've seen it after doing some research online for the one I got.

I think it's beautiful, and I don't know why it isn't spoken of very much here. It has a nice sturdy box, decent little companion book.

UGH. The Pathfinder's is supposed to have a companion book? I bought a supposedly brand new one from eBay, but there's no companion book. :( For anyone who has both decks, is the companion to the Pathfinder's that different from the one for the Truthseeker's? Or is the Pathfinder's just an abridged version of the Truthseeker's?

The companion is not very helpful, rwcarter. It has the pips divided by number and explains a bit about numerology then a few sentences about each card. Sometimes the meaning is clearly RWS, sometimes not. It fits inside the box. If the Truthseekers has info about the background patterns, then it is different from Pathfinders, which makes no mention of them at all. Sorry you didn't get a complete set, but I don't think the book adds much. I only say it's decent because it looks nice. Now that I've read it, I'd say it's rather disappointing! :)

Mine has a small book - but better is the book by Fontana that I mentioned earlier - I assume he had input into the deck that is used to illustrate it - as his name is on that too !

ETA I will compare the two "LWBs" later

Still running at "later" as we have company on the way - but I have emailed the artist to ask. I'll let you know what she says !
