"Why am I in their life"?

Brown Eyed Mystic

Hi everyone,

As a part of a larger reading using Shadowscapes, there was a question asked by the querent: "Why am I in this person's life?"

Background:
The other person is a romantic interest, but these two people hold very different views toward relationships and life in general.

For example, the guy has been a bit of a loose cannon, never "settled" apart from a live-in thing of a few years. Isn't a "bad" guy necessarily but shies away from commitment -- you know the kind :D

The girl is someone with strong and solid values. Really grounded when it comes to it. Loves "deeper" relationships -- the typical beautiful, good girl type.

Two poles apart.

The cards drawn were:
- The Tower
- The Emperor

Now, this guy has shown as the Emperor in past readings, so I believe it signifies him. The Tower is what caught my interest. I think it is saying the querent is in this person's life to bring about a change in long-established patterns in his life. A crumbling down of ways how he's held himself in the past. A disruption to his beliefs perhaps.

OR on a totally flip side, could it be saying the querent herself has to experience the tower by being in his life? So they could have their base "shaken"?

Your thoughts?

Hi :)

Both of your interpretations seems accurate to me. When we talk about relationship, it is an exchange of energy, so both people, according to me, will benefit from something.

So yes, the tower could be seen in that perspective.

I wish I could say more but I think you are on track!

To shake up his status quo (Tower) and show him he's not as in control as he thinks (Emperor).

OR on a totally flip side, could it be saying the querent herself has to experience the tower by being in his life? So they could have their base "shaken"?

Two people can be in each other's lives for completely different reasons. Both may be positive, both may be negative or one may be positive and one may be negative. So the Querent experiencing the Tower would be why he is in her life, not why she is in his life. So I wouldn't interpret the Tower for the Querent because the question is about the other person.

Hi everyone,

As a part of a larger reading using Shadowscapes, there was a question asked by the querent: "Why am I in this person's life?"
You have to look at the intent of the question.
1) Does she want to know "What am *I* doing in this person's life?" That is, What does she get out of it? What's her lesson?
or
2) does she want to know what her role is in *his* life - what's his lesson?

Tower-Emperor (Mars/Aries)
1) She's in for a rough ride, learning what it is like to be blown up, ravaged or struck by lighting. It could be sexually exciting if there is mutual consent. A worst case scenario suggests the relationship is devasting to her, even violent (physically or emotionally).

2) She opens him up, breaks down his defenses (for good or ill).

The question asks, "Why am I in their life?" So, to me, this means what purpose does the querent serve in the man's life. So this is not a look at the querent's life, this is a look at how the man in question is affected by the querent's presence in his life.

I think I agree with your interpretation. The Emperor is usually the "my way or the highway" type of guy. He doesn't allow anyone to change his beliefs or values. He's very stuck and stubborn in his ways. But with the Tower here, this rattles his throne and knocks him off his feet.

I think the Tower here says that the querent may shake up how the Emperor once saw things -- the querent is shattering the foundations the Emperor once held. Maybe even a blow to the big ol ego he has.

You are there to represent a stabilising force in an otherwise unstable environment

The emperor.
Ah, she acts as the Emperor (more 4 than Aries) to stabilize his Tower? Couldn't it equally be the other way around since BrownEyedMystic says that she identifies the Emperor with the guy?

Thanks tarot_quest! I think, like Rodney and others have pointed out, that this could mean her play in his life. But didn't want to discount that other possibility.
