Devil as what you should be more like

Dartellus

Hi!

This is a very interesting card/question combination.

Have any of you saw something like this?

What i see here: The devil speaks a lot about materialism and obsessions.

But in this question, i see it more connected to the materialism. Maybe is saying to the person to be more materialistic?

What you think?

Thanks!

The Devil is also very mirthful and knows how to laugh at himself. Maybe it's saying to not take things so seriously. Relax and have a good time, enjoy life's physical pleasures.

I had something similar a year or so back--in my case, it was the Devil in a position called "Your Strongest Aspect" when trying to achieve a specific goal. You might want to read through this one...

Once I got past worrying over it and really looked over the responses I got for the devil as a positive asset, the more I began to feel like it might actually be possible to read this card in a more positive light. There may be insight for you in the things others had to say about it.

(Materialistic, as it turns out, wasn't it in this case. My materialistic ways are still on the other side of the Devil, alas.) :joke:

As an aspect people should cultivate, tenacity would be one possibility (as the more positive, healthy way to frame obsessive tendencies). I also very much agree with Dazmond's idea of needing to learn to relax and have fun.

Hi Dazmond!

Amazing what you wrote, about the laugh about myself. I kinda see this "relax and have a good time" now in my life.
Very bright way of seeing the Devil.

Thanks a lot for the help!

Hi Jolie_amethyst!

Whoah, the interpretations that people wrote were very different from each other. Amanda wrote one of the most interesting at the end. And, again, some people get strongly attached to the Devil's negative archetype.

Tenacity is a great way to put in a positive way one of the Devil's trait...i really like it and see it in my life now.

Thanks for the help and for sharing the other thread, it's very cool the interpretations there!

Amanda's made me cry. :) Interestingly enough, subsequent readings I've had done for me by others in the forum who have not seen this thread--tarot, oracle, and different forms of divination--have brought up many of the same traits as positive qualities.

So yes, there's a surprising amount of diversity in this card. I'm glad the thread gave you some different ideas to think about! I'll be watching to see what others post here as well.

I agree with the above. Just one thing to add - maybe it's time to really connect to something in the material world, to not look down on it as i sometimes do. When we develop our spiritual aspects, sometimes we go through a period of 'spiritual egoism' or something similar. we see others chained to the cords of the material world and somehow feel superior to this. I'm not saying that this might be the case with you, but I think the devil in its positive aspects is saying something like 'you are part of the world so connect with it, in all its aspects'.

The Devil as "What should I be more like."

When I make a commitment to something I should stick with it, remember the reasons I made the commitment in the first place, and remember, when I'm feeling resentful about the limitations my commitment places on me, that I chose it.

Also, when I notice that I'm not getting what I want out of a situation, I should not be afraid to cast off that chain.

The Devil as "should be more like"

The devil in some interpretations can speak to our suppressed side.
Are there emotions and desires you are suppressing at the moment?
This does not have to mean sexual. It can be in regards to a relationship or in regards to your everyday life.
Perhaps it is in this position asking you to look inside yourself to see if you have become dominated by either certain people or certain routines. Look deep to see if things that once made you happy or certain sides of your personality aren't being nurtured or stimulated, thus laying dormant and restless.
Also, the devil card coming up in a "should be more like" position can also point to caution to this question in general. Why are you asking what you 'should be more like' in the first place? This is not meant to be harsh or even publicly answered, but the pressures of living up to certain expectations or public images is heightened these days and this can suppress organic growth and the spontaneity that makes all individual life unique. These stereotypes and pre-determinned images become an unliveable standard, and they tend to suppress individuality.
All humbly stated.
Best wishes.

Hi Hollyfringe!

Very interesting the point that you added. This can happen after we face an spiritual phase and i loved this interpretation of The Devil in this way...i really liked.
It really made think about it...

Thanks a lot for the great insight!
