Moon clarified by 2 of Wands-commonality??

Tiggy-cat

So trying to get a better sense of whether the guy I'm interested in is seeing someone right now, or available, and over a few readings I think it seems that he's NOT deeply involved right now, but I'm trying to make sense of this combo.

I had asked recently if he was committed, "playing the field", or totally single, and drew the Moon, which I took to mean something is not quite as it seems. Maybe involved but their feelings for each other are not really equal and they haven't realized it yet, or maybe he's in some wild, crazy unhealthy relationship but is feeling like it's wonderful? So I pulled the Moon and then drew a card to clarify, which was 2 of Wands.

I don't have much experience at all with 2 of Wands, and it seems to be about making that big choice, or decision, similar to the Lovers, or of a desire to get somewhere but needing cooperation between 2 for a plan to succeed, or being held back.

So from this combo, I feel like he's not in a happy attached situation right now, (making a choice whether to stay or go? Needing to find the right path but needing someone to help him find it?) but being reminded yesterday of Thirteen's advice on clarifiers that they are saying the same thing only in a different way as the original card, I'm not really seeing much commonality between these 2 cards, so am not sure I'm getting the message correctly.

An element of needing to find the right path to take? An element of fear of the unknown? Maybe the thing that keeps the guy behind the castle walls is his own fear of stepping outside his comfort zone? Trying to see the common denominator here.

Prior to this combo, I had drawn 2 of Swords for the nature of his current situation, which I took to either mean in a relationship but having some bonding issues (separation or standoff) or not wanting any close relationships (blockage — nothing in, nothing out). BUT...what if 2 of Swords and Moon are both suggesting some clandestine relationship? Or should I be more focused on Moon plus 2 of Wands, since that's what I drew most recently? Sorry this is a bit long, just am not sure what to make of this pair and would love some input!

Hi Tiggy-cat, to me here the Moon refers to this guy confusion about a particular situation he's involved in, that is to say I don't think he's committed, but surely he's dating another girl as well.
The Moon says he's not sure about what do to with this girl, I mean he doesn't know if it's better to keep on flirting or starting a committed relationship with her, maybe he's also not sure about his feelings towards her.
I think the 2 Wands strengthens this interpretation, because this card can be about doubts like "Should I stay or should I go?", "What if I do? What if I don't?" etc. so I see it as a good clarifier here.
To me the 2 Swords is another confirmation about his indecision in love department.

I agree with Elena's take on the moon, and I think the two of wands indicates that he's (maybe subconsciously) looking around to see if there is someone else better out there, and he doesn't want to make the move to leave unless he has someone else lined up.

Yup - this - but also, I see the two of Wands as being comfortably sat in a known and therefore safe situation; not wishing to take risks; not having the the big challenges, but preferring to stay in the place of comfort. Settling for what he has, because it is known and he feels in control.

With Moon, I'd say this is a person unwilling to take any emotional risks, and that he will stay put where he is, in a known situation. A person with a stunted or small ability to see beyond his own blinders.

The 2 of Wands in RWS shows a man with a globe in his hand deciding where to send his ships out to bring back things he wants. I think this just means your person you're reading about is searching far and wide around the world to bring him romantic possibilities. The internet is worldwide so he may be using the internet to make contact with possible love or sexual interests. The Moon is kind of murky---think about when you walk in the moonlight. You can't see things clearly. Also, the Moon is a feminine watery card and does feed into that image of him searching all over the world for contacts that he can't see clearly. Some people see the Moon as being a romantic card.

Two of wands as Internet dating, or looking. I love this! It's such a common way to scan for what's out there, and a common thing for people who are wondering, but scared of being alone, to do. I'll be remembering this interpretation.

Ah, thank you Elena! I think that makes perfect sense, and I had somehow forgotten about the "confusion" aspects of the Moon. I was thinking the irrational thoughts and crazy fantasies aspects but just general confusion definitely correlates with that needing to choose aspect of the 2 of Wands. Thank you so much!

Hmm, ok. Perhaps I should make sure he knows I'm "waiting" :) !

That's kind of like the afraid to leave the comfort zone theory I had then too.

I also just remembered the cyclical aspects of the moon so maybe he's kind of waffling between a yes/no, stay/go with someone right now.

Thank you Padma. You guys are awesome, I've learned so much just now about the 2 of Wands!

I've never thought of the Moon before as someone being afraid to take emotional risks, more like a someone very emotional, but I see now that could make sense since I remember the fear of the unknown aspects and it's all about deep emotions. So deep emotions = scary to some people. Hmm.

Aha! Interesting, my 2 of Wands (Chinese tarot) doesn't have a globe, but seems to suggest very different things than most of what I've heard elsewhere about the card and frankly I find their LWB info on it VERY confusing. I say aha! Because even though it doesn't show a globe, he does travel extensively for work and has just been out of the country for a couple of weeks and before that was away for a couple of months in a whole nother country. So it could be he had taken up with someone far away and now that he's back home, he has a decision of how much he should try to stay involved. Thanks for this info!
