The English Magic Tarot

Barleywine

I'm curious whether the quality problems with this deck that were mentioned earlier in the thread are widespread. I see the deck is now selling on Amazon for $4.31 and thought that might be part of the reason.

The companion book for this deck by Tony Willis is one of the most useful I own. I see that Tony is now posting regularly here:

$4.31? Really? And Willis writes great companion books?

Well I guess I have no choice, I'm buying this and I hope it gets here soon. Thanks Barleywine.

Magick and The Tarot by Tony Willis is one of the few tarot books that I have read more than once. I could not say if it would be helpful with the English Magic deck or not as I do not have the deck.

Just to be clear, the Tony Willis companion book I was talking about is for the Magickal Tarot by Anthony Clark.

Yup, I'm aware of that. This set has intrigued me the first time I previewed it a week ago, and now with the ridiculous $4 price tag, it cannot be anything but a go. Plus as you mentioned, Willis wrote a good companion book before, and if he performs his magic again it would be extra delicious icing on the cake.

Oops, are we getting our decks crossed here? $4 is for the English Magic Tarot. I don't think Willis wrote a companion book for that.

Oh, my apologies, I quite misunderstood that. Thanks for clarifying the bit about the companion book. My brain wandered because of the seductive price of the English Magic Tarot lol. :D I'm still not cancelling though.

It's a bit too bad that I didn't fall in love with this deck, because of its reference to the 16th century period and magic.

Well, I don't know why I didn't feel really attracted, maybe the art or because many cards don't correspond to the traditional version that I am used to see.
I am not a fan of the large borders for the minors as well.

Anyway it isn't impossible that I will change my mind later; I remember that at first I didn't like the Morgand Greer (one of my favorite now).
Time will tell! :)
ETA: I haven't this deck, but I looked at the deck and cards online.

So just an update I got my cards from Amazon today brand new factory sealed and the top two cards were bent and the Magician card had a strange crease.

The cards feel really cheap compared to my other decks. I doubt they would hold up for long and seem like they'd be prone to tearing. I thought I would like the colored borders for the suits which I do but for me they are distractingly big. The artwork also just isn't grabbing me. Like Decan says it maybe because it differs from what I am use to or maybe there's just too much detail for me which some may enjoy. Anyway I'm opting to return them and save up for The Wild Unknown instead.
