In answering this poll, please indicate more than one reply (unless you have only one reply to give).

For me, it also is a way to keep my nervous hands busy, i.e., shuffling. I really should invest in some ball bearings, a' la Captain Queeg....... :D

I second that :D Very cool thread by the way! It's interesting to see how everyone else uses the cards. Love the variety of choices.

There should also be Therapy, or maybe that goes under Healing and Medtation?

Good idea for a thread, Rusty Neon. Very interesting reading the poll results on how everyone uses tarot - there are a quite a few there that I haven't tried yet (or thought of LOL), which always leaves room for experimenting with something new. ;)

oh, come on! those 3 that listed playing card games really need to share!

Is there any solitary cardgame with the tarot?

No solitary card game, but there is the game of tarot. It is, after all, what tarot decks were originally designed for... :)

(Of course, I don't use my divination tarot decks to play tarot, I use a tarot deck designed for the game which is much cheaper and uglier and one that I don't mind coffee stains on :)

Reading professionally would mean charging for the reading.

SongDeva  21 Apr 2004
This is a nice thread because it made me realize all the different ways I use tarot. I never would have thought there were so many. It's all always been just 'tarot' to me. :)

Another way would have been as "a social tool/for socializing,"
in person, and of course here at AT!

A few years ago, this would have kept you out of the Tarot Olympics ;)

Interesting thread!

I am a Reiki Healer, so the cards help me, especially in 'problem solving' the cause of chakra tightness or blockage.

I am not interested in past life work, as i believe all those problems are visible in this life.... so i never use the cards for past life info.

For me, it is all about the present.... the future is less and less interesting to me.... what i do today creates my future..... :)

I also brainstorm with the cards.... sometimes the moment is a 'mess' and the cards help me discern my focus.....

Hi,

Very interesting to see many of the ways people like to use tarot. I checked most of them since I find the cards to be so versatile, even beyond giving readings.

Joy to you,

An interesting thread - I never realised before but I do use my cards for brainstorming - not played any cards games yet though lol

Khatruman  21 Apr 2004
There is one other use that was not on the poll: creative writing.

I use tarot in writing fiction, character development, jumpstarting new ideas.

I guess it falls somewhat under brainstorming, but it involves so much more when I am doing it in regards to story writing.

Hi everyone .... The poll results are interesting. Thanks to all who replied or may still reply. Looking at the results and the helpful feedback, I see that the poll could be expanded to include further choices and be better delineated. Perhaps I should, when the dust settles from this poll, do a more refined and expanded poll.

For instance, we don't receive a total number of how many people read for others (telephone, computer or in-person, combined - without overlap). Likewise for the professional reading question; there is no non-overlapping question. As well, it would have been nice to get a breakdown of how many people read for others nowhere but on Aeclectic, or how many people read just for close family/close friends.

I think at times we forget why we start certain things. This poll was a great way to get back to some of the other ways that we can be using the tarot to enhance our lives and the lives of others.

At one time or another...I have used Tarot for All Of The Above!

Nope. I believe this to be a great misconception. Although... perhaps the "gods" used it as a game to teach us about ourselves, the universe and how the we interact with each other.

It was used as a game afterwards.

WOW! Have never seen a strategy game like that played with Tarot! Not sure that I have the inclination at the moment to sit down and figure it out, but my son is into strategy card games so thanks for the interesting link.

Excellent. I've always wondered about the games that people play with them.

Got any more? ;)

cramnhoJ  24 Apr 2004
Heh? figure it out, it's actually fairly easy to learn it as long as you spend the time reading the rules.

I found this site when I started with Tarot over a year ago. I also found a site about card games that showed the different card games the Tarot was used for, but I forgot the site though. Those games were a bit boring imo as they're more or less a variation of poker. But it was interesting to see how the games played from country to country differed.

Also, have you guys checked out the link to Gnostica too?

There is a book on games with Tarot called "Tarot Games" by Cait Johnson & Maura D. Shaw, which is currently on my wish list, but I have not got around to ordering it yet. Will be interesting to see what other games there are.
