From "The New Age," by Stevie Smith:

Shall I tell you the signs of a New Age coming?
It is a sound of drubbing and sobbing
Of people crying, We are old, we are old
And the sun is going down and becoming cold
Oh sinful and sad and the last of our kind
If we turn to God now do you think He will mind?

What card am I?

Judgment?

Death?

Seems too simple to be correct but I'll try it anyway.

The Tower - and the realisation that the old live has become obsolet?

ncefafn  05 Apr 2005
All wonderful guesses but not the card I was thinking of. Keep trying.

Is Aeon too close the judgement to count as another guess? (If so you are a very tricky woman ;) )

Lady Mary  05 Apr 2005
Justice?

Not only too close, but way off base. I hate Thoth! :P

And sorry, not Justice either.

I'll give y'all a clue. Think RWS visuals.

Now I'll have to go get my deck :D

In case I miss out first could it be 10 Swords? (Although being a glass is half full kind of a lad, I like to think of that sun a rising not falling...)

peridot  05 Apr 2005
perhaps the 9 of swords?

ncefafn  05 Apr 2005
Peridot wins it! :)

The self-pitying aspect of the Nine of Swords, the weeping, the atmosphere of being an innocent victim of an overwhelming and unkind Fate, led me to choose that card to encapsulate the snippet of Stevie Smith's poem.

Over to you, Peridot!

8 of Cups?

Lady Mary  05 Apr 2005
Sorry, didn't see your last post, Kim.
