Dame Fortune's Wheel: Este / Conver / Cary Sheet/ etc. inspired trumps

Rose Lalonde

Sources of inspiration for the DFW trump cards, taken from Paul Huson's free, extended LWB and a post by him on the forum. (Some cards are pretty faithful to the originals while others, like the Star and the Fool, have significant changes.)

If you know the inspiration for Judgment or (more about) Love or have a link to the Tower original image {EDIT: Tower image found}, I'd be happy to know the details!

The Fool - TdM Nicolas Conver
The Juggler - The Children of the Planets
The Female Pope - Conver
The Empress - Cary Sheet
The Emperor - Cary Sheet
The Pope - Conver
Love - 'medieval illuminated manuscript' (?)
The Chariot - Conver
Justice - Este (aka misnamed Charles VI)
The Hermit - Este
The Wheel of Fortune - Not named in the LWB, but Visconti-Sforza
Fortitude - Este
The Hanged Man - Este
Death - Este
Temperance - Este
The Devil - Dick Sheet
The Tower - Dick Sheet (I haven't found the original image) {EDIT: image is here}
The Star - Cary Sheet
The Moon - Conver
The Sun - The Children of the Planets
Judgment - ? (top half looks somewhat similar to Dick Sheet)
The World - Este

Hi, Rose, thanks for this list--it's very interesting. I really didn't know where the DFW images came from till someone posted a link to http://www.albideuter.de/ with lovely side-by-side comparisons of many historical decks. I was interested in how many DFW trumps looked much like the Este as pictured on that site--and now you've filled in the blanks:angel:

I forgot that site shows DFW! Thanks. :)

And I've found a link to the Tower's Dick Sheet original, through a link here at the forum, of course. Adding above.
