Premium German Rider Waite with Pam A crackle brown back and 1909 colouring

Laura Borealis

Exactly - the titles don't matter since the images are so universal. And a beginner would be able to figure out which is which by the numbering... unless you're like me and struggle with Roman numerals! :|

So, as Occultum said, they don't seem to be on the AGM site. But I did find them on the Königsfurt-Urania site.

Pocket: http://www.koenigsfurt-urania.com/shop/produktansicht/premium-tarot-von-ae-waite-pocket.html
Standard: http://www.koenigsfurt-urania.com/shop/produktansicht/premium-tarot-von-ae-waite-standard.html
Giant: http://www.koenigsfurt-urania.com/shop/produktansicht/tarot-von-a-e-waite-giant.html

This is the first time I've been tempted by a giant Rider Waite. :bugeyed:

GIANT ? Oh GEEZ, Laura....

I do have a USG giant. I may manage to resist this one !

Thoughtful

Tee Hee! Laura you are getting Gregory in a right spin

Occultum is in the UK so it can be bought on Amazon UK You better hurray though, only 9 of the standard and 1 of the pocket left. Unless they get more stock in.

I love it ! The stock is lovely and slick, and I can read German, so the book's no problem. I don't know why you'd assume it's translated from English - Fiebig is in there too !

And I like the colouring - and the German titles are no problem. But colour me childish - I LOVE the cracklebacks !

Well, because Rachel Pollack doesn't write in German, does she?

I also like the card stock. It is a bit thinner than the card stock from U.S. Games but not as flimsy as Llewellyn's. With Llewellyn I'm always afraid that I bend the cards because they are too thin.
I can easily shuffle the "Von Waite" and I love the card backs.

For someone like me who did not like the RWS, l find l can't put this deck down. Having bought it a few weeks ago l still find it adorable, which is saying something, if it had been another "why did l buy this RWS" purchase, it would have been relegated to my stockpile after a few days. l love love love it.

Like Gregory l also love the crackle backs, well in fact l love just about everything.

Just to confirm, like the photos show in Laura B's link the standard German has a completely white top, whilst the pocket has a white top with an edge of orange.

I agree with Thoughtful. I was put off by the RWS. I bought the Universal Waite for learning but don't connect with it.
But the "Von Waite" works for me.

Rachel Pollack lived in Europe for many years, and in her books about the Haindl Tarot, she writes about visiting Haindl at his home in Germany to discuss the project. So it's not impossible that she is fluent in German.

No, but Fiebig doesn't write in English AFAIK... and this deck IS from Germany.

Occultum Lapidem

I have been looking for a new reading deck for a couple of months now. Preferences - pocket-sized for easier transportation, shuffling and laying out of spreads, relatively straightforward imagery (nothing too esoteric or 'funky' ;)), and RWS-style minors.

I really like everything about the pocket von Waite except for the half-and-half box, which seems like a strange design choice to me, as it seems to somewhat defeat the chief advantage of a pocket-sized deck, i.e. that it can fit in your pocket :p

You wouldn't want a box of this excellent sturdiness in your pocket even if it were mini sized - also it's lift top and would pop off. A bag or a tin seems the way to go.

I bought the Giant listed there (but not from them, the ISBN/EAN is the same) and it does NOT have the brown crackle/mud backs like the Pocket and Standard do.
