The black and white Tarot Deck

The 'clothed' version seems less freer to me, like she's got to clamp down with her arms to keep the silk in place or something and the man's eye still being critical for her not having honest clothing on. I like the nude version better.

But you have to cater to the rules of the publisher, which is unfortunate.

I vote for black and white also. Don't color them.

I could be wrong, but I just can't picture a colorized version of this that would be better than the beautiful B&W line drawings.

Agreed. It's beautiful pen work. Colouring it is a travesty in some ways unless the artist feels coloured would be better. It would have to be transparent (tints) to let the line drawing show through - IMO.

Perhaps you can get a contract with US Games which will enable you to release a small black and white print run (may via the Game Crafter, so you won't have to go through the hassle normally associated with self-publishing)? I do understand where you're coming from. It does feel good when one's work is picked up by a major publisher.

As I said above, your style reminds me a bit of the Tarot of the Origins' (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/tarot-of-the-origins/). It might give you an idea on how a colored version of your work would look like.

While I do prefer the nude version, I like the compromise you did with the clothed World card. The flow of the fabric makes it look like a natural part of the scene (as opposed to something added). I did notice, however, that the cloth's shaded areas appear more solid than the shading you did for the other parts of the image, which made it look a bit inconsistent with the rest of the image. Zoomed out, it looked like woodcuts, and I had to zoom in to see the hatching in it. So maybe you should add more hatching to the details you add to make it more consistent with the original image.

Your work is so beautiful, here's to hoping you can publish a deck as you originally intended, nudity and all.

Thank you all and thanks for this comparison with the origins of the tarot, tarot cards are an Italian illustrator Sergio Toppi, which I love, if I had to color them so that I would color them ... but I'm not as good as him.

What you say on the suit of the card in the world is true, because I am working quickly to present this project, having to arrange the cards already made, try to color them, illustrate the minor arcana and prepare a booklet ...
I was thinking of doing only major arcana, however I have to do all 78 cards and do a whole bunch I'm liking it is long and difficult to maintain the same quality on all cards.

I am thrilled that a Publishing House has approached you to produce this deck.

I'm sure that you could come to some arrangement whereby the deck can be published with the nudes, and in Black & White. What if it was printed in a country where the content (nudity) was not an issue, or the deck was classified differently (other than a Game for all ages) - or distributed from an out sourced company which belonged to the main company...

Did the Publisher explain to you as to why they want the changes? Where you allowed any creative input into that discussion and as to what your preferences to changes would be?

There are plenty of Tarot Card decks which show nude figures - some showing much more. Maybe you don't need to clothe your figures so much as disguise the nudity with the shading strokes of the ink pen?

As you can see, I prefer your own original vision for the deck as just Majors or as a whole - and I am sure you will do a great job if there are any changes made, whether its colour, or clothing - I would be happy to own all 3 decks ;)

Thoughtful

A wonderful deck your artwork is superb, love the black and white and the nude figures. It wouldn't be the same coloured and clothed, such a pity you have to make compromises.

Please keep copies of the originals. There may just be a case for publishing the originals in due time (I was thinking of Adam Mclean in England but if I remember correctly he only publishes Majors) and I'm sure a few art collectors would have the money ready. I am one such and would love to have them.

Sure, I always keep all evidence drawings old and new.
I work on so many levels and designs separate pieces, to make one, as if they were collages, then mix them together with graphics programs, I help with scanner and printer.
Working in this way to allow me corrections, changes or to add and remove particular, in this case the dress that was designed separately and then superimposed on by the program and not drawn on.
For the cards that have already made so I will have two versions, but the problem is that the future of cards will not be naked, why I'm drawing dressed already, should I work twice as hard to make her naked and then cover them ... and a few cards in the nude bunch stonerebbero perhaps, although I'd enjoy doing much then at the end of the deck the opposite of what I'm doing now, work on it and strip them ...
