Decks You Wish You Hadn't Bought?

Z&F Decks

Zerner-Farber. I wanted to like it so much, but it just felt so stiff and made me feel claustrophobic. I got rid of the deck and the book and didn't pick up another deck until 5 years later.

I actually have two decks by this pair, the Zerner-Farber deck and the True Love deck. I do not like the backs of the first and they are to busy to use for reading. I like the art though, but then I like quilted art in general.
The second deck is much plainer and it has non-standard suits with unillustrated pips so that also makes it a difficult deck to read with that said I like the book that goes with it.

Lo Scarabeo Decks

Oswald Wirth, Lo Scarabeo Marseilles.

Every LS deck I buy I just end up hating, so I say away from them now.

With the exception of Dame Fortune's Wheel, which is an outstanding and historically important deck.

I don't care to read with Lo Scarabeo decks but I like the art. I think about half my decks I keep for art value alone and many of those are LoS.

Housewives Deck

Housewives. It's hard to shuffle and I find the deck has a caustic attitude that I thought at first would be quirky and funny, but is really just sharp and sarcastic. I'd love to trade that one away.

Some people I read for really like this deck as it is less intimidating then many traditional decks, especially those of a Christian mindset. I don't like sorting it back into the box and I prefer traditional suits when reading. It's a nice deck as far as the art goes.

Decks are like people

I have about 50 decks. Many of them I do not use for readings and collected just for the art. I probably "work" with less then a dozen of them.
To me decks are like people. They come into your life as a blessing or a lesson. Even the most obnoxious people are in your life for a reason. If they are to be a lesson it becomes my goal to find out what that lesson is.
If I had to pick one deck that I really regret buying it would be the The Celtic Tarot by Davis/Paterson. It is poorly made, contains numerous defects, the art is uninspired and the pips are unillustrated. I bought it on clearance and if I had seen it before hand I wouldn't have bothered.
I wouldn't sell any of my decks but a few are less appealing to me then others.
These are a few of them:
Tarot of Marseille (Lo Scarabeo)
Tarot of the Holy Grail (Lo Scarabeo)
The DaVinci Tarot (Lo Scarabeo)
Pocket Goddess Tarot
Witches Tarot (Reed/Cannon)
Ship of Fools (Williams)
Today's JourneyTarot
and dare I say I don't much care for the Thoth or Golden Dawn decks?

WAIT! there was a deck I nearly burned and destroyed. I believe it was called the Sensual Goddess deck. It turned out to be a pornographic deck of naked women with overly large fake breasts. As a breast cancer survivor having had a bilateral mastectomy they were beyond offensive.

Cocobird55

The Via freaked me out -- quickly gave it away.

manandcards

Night Sun - creepy deck - got halfway looking at the darks before boxing it and then selling it on eBay.

Madame Squee

The Via freaked me out -- quickly gave it away.

Word. I couldn't rest until it was out of the house. Now, I see it selling for quite a bit. I don't care, I was glad when it left. Creepy as the dickens, it was. :bugeyed:

could you expand? Native Tarot

For me, personaly... The Native American Tarot from US Games Inc. I, myself, Being of Native American descent after seeing the art felt an insulted:(. As well as the interpretations diden't make sence.

I had that deck as well. It was actually a gift, and I always try harder with decks that are gifted but it just felt...off? I have native heritage as well and knowing how complex different areas and tribes are..it seemed somewhat simple? or patronizing? perhaps thats too harsh..I don't know! Ive never heard someone else say that so I curious to hear more perspective

Nicoletta Ceccoli Tarot. Of course the art work is beautiful, but some of those cards make me feel squeamish and I didn't realize I'd end up triggered by this desk. My childhood was a bit rocky. So while some cards speak to me on many levels, using this deck is not enjoyable. Still trying to sell it. But if I can't find a buyer by the end of May I'll hang onto it, for the artwork only maybe.

Also, a bunch of second hand castoff tarot I found at thrift stores, including a second Rider deck I'd thought I hadn't had so I have a duplicate, decks with missing cards I can't sell etc...Well, they're interesting anyways. I can use the second rider for a tarot journal of some kind where I'd need card pictures, I suppose. I can think of some uses for damaged decks or decks with missing card, just can't think of them right now...

lol I like the way you put it. If only I could trade the nuisance as if I am trading a deck! I admire those who can equally respect the less agreeable deck with all the memories attached to it, and make peace with its being part of their reality. But personally, I found it increasingly impossible to do so when there are so many mass-produced eye-candies flooding the market. Under such circumstance the wrong deck no longer comes to me with a lesson or reason, but sheer chagrin on another wasted consumption =(
