Tarot illustration assistant

rindelanoche

Ok I don't know if this is the best place of the forum to post this(sorry).
Well, I am interested in being a tarot illustrator but I am a beginner( I don't have experience in photoshop and I am learning to draw [emoji29]),so I want to gain experience too, I want to know what is necessary to be an assistant or what is necessary to get involved in a tarot illustration and gain experience.

Note: my drawing isn't bad, just that I am still learning things like proportions and I am perfecting my illustrations (but I still thinking they look amateur šŸ˜³).

:)) welcome!:))
imo best way to learn is experience?!:))
try illustrating few cards?:) and see how it goes?:) and how it look printed?:)
maybe best to start with something simple/minimal number of cards? i.e major arcana etc
you can work in traditional or digital media but eventually you'll need to transfer in digital in order to print your deck?:)) so it's good to stick to proportions you may download templates from Game crafter http://help.thegamecrafter.com/article/39-templates
(as most of printer use their sizes!:))
and it work with Printerstudio your best friend for printing/selfpublishing!^^lolz ;))

and you can read more about all that in last chapter of my book

There's nothing so formal as being an assistant around here. Designing tarot cards isn't really a studio kind of workspace. Just get started!

The position you want doesn't exist.

Don't worry about learning to illustrate tarot, specifically. Instead, just focus on improving your artwork. Take classes. Draw every day. Learn to draw the human figure accurately and expressively. Take a figure drawing class or three. Study (learn) a variety of mediums -- pencils, watercolor, oil, acrylic, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc. Study landscapes; study still lifes. While you build your skill set, work on finding your own voice and style.

Study tarot. Read lots of tarot books and learn everything you can. Collect and study different decks, paying attention to what they have included, what they omitted, how their interpretation compares to Marseille / RWS / Thoth / their inspiration system.

Look at the major tarot publishing houses; get a feel for the types of interpretations and artwork they tend to publish. Look into how independent deck creators have been successful.

Your goal is to become an artist that buyers and publishers want. In the meantime, keep designing cards. It doesn't matter if yesterday's work is never published; today's artwork might be "the one".

Oh, and learn to draw horses. Pesky knights!

Or come up with something cool to do with them that doesn't involve horses. I'm pretty sure I'm doing a bunch of sets of feet for mine, though that may end up being pages.

I was doing a mystical cat sketch and thought if I would make a deck from it how old I made the Knights? maybe adding an armor.
