How do you store your rocks and crystals?

PathWalker

Glad to have been of help :)
Some of my unpolished specimens came in their own labelled boxes, I keep those. But otherwise when I buy something I ask the shop to write the name of it (if it' not one I know really well) on the bag, otherwise I would have forgotten what half of mine are :)

Ahhh, letterpress drawer, yes!

and I just did a google search...found this...exactly (almost) as you described! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/545991154806732499/

Dude. That is gorgeous! I'd love a setup like that! And it wouldn't be too hard to achieve. I can't afford the antique shelves but the overall look is doable.

Ok so I realized I can use Flickr, yes? Let's see how this goes... I was sharing above that it seems some larger jewelry boxes or mini dressers would work great. The picture of the dresser jewelry box that I recently found at my grandparents' house is second to the last, and the last pic is of it opened up with my great-aunt's many pieces of costume jewelry in there! You can see the tape on the box which she put on there decades ago to remind herself which type of her jewelry she kept in there...

How pretty they look on the black velvet! That big druzy quartz makes me want to grab it :D And the dark amethyst cluster. I really like the jewelry box too. You could sort a lot of stones into something like that.

So here's a couple of shots, and a link to folding the boxes in paper or very thin card. I've got lots done in paper - so very cheap, size can be varied :)

I used to make origami boxes all the time. I never thought of using them for this purpose, but they're perfect. You have a big collection! Sorting them by color is such a good idea. I see some lovely specimens in there... big old quartz crystals (I love quartz) ... the big citrine ... and that yellow polished stone with the big green spot (jasper?) looks so touchable.

Thanks! :) That black velvet is actually a very dark midnight blue with a tassel on each corner! I use it usually for tarot cards. Got it online by googling "tarot cards" and "cloth" and "images" and it was one of the photos I liked the best. I think you can see it in the tarot pics I also have somewhere in my flickr albums involving tarot cards.

Speaking of that link, I uploaded more pics and now you can see the crystals inside my great aunt's old tabletop jewelry dresser thingie!

Wow! I love the effect of the small light below the large crystal points. What a lovely collection! :)

I have to confess that I have forgotten what some of my crystals are, they're all over the house. I remember the larger ones, like spheres, but the tumblestones are a bit of a challenge.

I've often wondered about photographing new crystals and saving the photo with the name of the crystal.

Unfortunately, being a Gemini, thinking about it is as far as it went.

Thanks so much Amsonia! I hope I used the quotes properly to reply to you. : - o That light already busted on me though - ugh! And yes isn't it great how the crystals/stones turned out in that jewelry container?! I mean it was PERFECT and just sitting there wasting away in my grandparents' house!! If anyone else is interested I saw several on eBay. Mine happened to still have the original key and I think I saw at least a few others that did as well. Just makes it more fun (not like any of us are really going to lock them!).

Something smaller like this would be great for smaller collections or small stones only:

This one's almost identical to mine except for color and drawer pulls are a bit different! It seems to be in slightly better condition than mine:

Ha! Good idea though! I wonder if someone out there on the internet sells the little scraps of papers with names and descriptions on them! I doubt it but you never know... Would be nice to figure it out on our own then have somebody else deal with giving/selling us the descriptions (e.g. if we don't live near a crystals/rocks store).
