Julian Assange Extradition Hearing

Minderwiz

We ran a couple of threads last year on Julian Assange and the Wikileaks disclosures. Sweden has requested his extradition from the UK to face questioning and possible charges over allegations of rape, molestation and unlawful coercion. The extradition hearing began this morning and I attach a chart set for the moment Assange took his place in the court room.

This is an event chart, rather than a natal chart or a horary chart - it should give us some indication of the possible outcome of the hearing, so I'll make some observations and hopefully others will make further comments and observations or ask questions.

Assange takes the first House, as the event concerns him and he is the prime focus of the event. Taurus is rising, so he is signified by Venus. The case for extraditions is led by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) so the CPS is Assange's open enemy and take the seventh House. The CPS are therefore signified by Mars.

The hearing is taking place in Belmarsh Magistrates Court, in London and the magistrates making the decision (which can be appealed) are signified by the Tenth House, and are signified by Saturn, ruler of Capricorn.

Now a couple of preliminary points- firstly I've used London, rather than narrowd in on Belmarsh prison itself, simply to make it easier for others to use their Astrology programs if they want to replicated the chart. This brings some minor inaccuracy but does not make a crucial difference.

Secondly, I've included the outer planets, so that those who think they are significant can see where they lie and consider what their roles would be.

Let's look at the significators of Assange and the CPS. Venus is Capricorn, conjunct the 9th cusp (2 degrees away). The ninth has relevance to legal matters and Capricorn is ruled by Saturn indicating the obvious that Assange is subject to the court. Venus has a mutual reception with Saturn, through rulership and is the Earth triplicity ruler and in it's own Terms. So Venus is strong.

Mars is in Aquarius also ruled by Saturn and therefore again showing the obvious, that the prosecution is subject to the court and legal process. If you use Uranus as the ruler of Aquarius, things will be different. Mars in Aquarius is Peregrine - the Crown case is not particularly strong or organised.

Essentially Venus is the stronger and we might conclude that Assange has right on his side. But right doesn't win court cases. We need to look at the accidental dignities - Mars is slightly better placed by House, Venus is oriental (rises before the Sun) a slight debility but Mars is combust. Either the CPS case is going on out of sight (combust planets cannot be seen) or the case is exceptionally weak.

Looking at the aspects, Venus is conjunct the North Node (in the eighth) which adds some disruption but is generally possitive but is squared by the Moon/Jupiter conjunction from the twelfth. Jupiter is both Lord 12 and Lord 8, so rules the two most unfortunate houses in the chart. Jupiter is therefore accidentally malefic (and is also the natural ruler of the legal system). The Moon rules the fourth House, which signifies the end of the matter - so these two aspects do not bode well for Assange. The twelfth is hidden or secret enemies, so does this indicate some truth to Assange's claim that there is a hidden plot to get him to the US, through a second extradition case in Sweden? So we have three planets, all of whom may be acting in an unseen capacity - the CPS, the Judicial system as a whole and the significator of the final outcome. Modern Astrologer might also note the conjunction with Pluto but does this add any further strength to the threat to Assange?

Mars is trined by Saturn (the judge/legal process in the case) and squares, the Ascendant (Assange) The judge may well find for the CPS. The aspect is just past perfection but is still partile, so has the deal been done?

Lastly we have Saturn. Saturn is in it's own exaltation and essentially the most powerful planet in the chart. But it is retrograde and so will not necessarily act as predicted. It is also in the sixth house, which is not a fortunate position. The sixth signifies servants - who will the magistrates serve in this hearing?

Assange may have a good case but the circumstances he finds himself in are not advantageous by any means - the court appears to be predisposed towards him in principle but will this be enough?
