Fairytale Tarot (MRP) - The Star

Master_Margarita

The Star is represented in this deck by the Romanian tale of the Fairy of the Dawn, which can be found here. This version is quite elaborate--there are places where you can practically hear the embellishments added over the years, and hear the crackle of the fire that the storyteller is sitting beside! Petru has adventure upon adventure. It reminds me of the levels of a video game.

The color scheme on this card, with its pinks, blues, and lavenders, reminds me a bit of Maxfield Parrish. Petru has reached his moment of success. The Fairy of the Dawn is asleep by her spring, and Petru is about to take the water that will cure his father's eyes (one eye weeps all the time, the other eye laughs all the time).

What makes The Fairy of the Dawn a story to represent specifically the Star is its constant references to hope and perseverance. Petru continually overcomes fear, doubt, and hardship. His father despairs at the state of his kingdom in the beginning; Petru has to come back for a second horse because the first doesn't suit. Then he goes through many battles and travels harsh kingdoms. The story begins and ends with the king's vision (initially impaired, and finally cured); the story's complicated message is ultimately in part that clear-sightedness and hope are not incompatible.
