Tarot de Marseille: your Top Five

tmgrl2

Diana....a bunch of us included Hadar!!!

I agree with jmd, though.

I included my letarot.com Dodal and Noblet 22's...but since they aren't complete Tarot decks...I study them rather than read with them...

For reading, I have to admit, my first TdM choice is

The Hadar...

When my clients pick a TdM, I give them choices of Hadar, Dusserre and Camoin...so far, only one has picked the Dusserre...and this woman speaks French....her primary language...so she loved it. Otherwise, Hadar is chosen.

Which Dusserre? 1930 Marteau (Dusserre) deck or 1701 Dodal (Dusserre) deck?

Which Camoin? Jodorowosky-Camoin deck or 1760/1880 woodcut Camoin deck?

I've attached no conditions to my list. These are my favorites just because they are.

Hadar
Rodes-Sanchez
Felicite
Camoin Bicentennial
Conver-Heron

Dodal Dusserre - where to purchase?

With so many of you rating the Jean Dodal, 1701 (Dusserre) deck so highly, my interest is piqued. Where can I get this TdM treasure?

Re: Dusserre Dodal

According to Mr. Roderick Somerville, writing on
February 15, 2005:

"Like you, I wish the Dodal version was still available since it was almost
certainly the oldest and nicest Tarot de Marseille to have been reproduced
so far. Unfortunately, however, it was dropped from the Dusserre range a
few years ago now. Jean-Claude Dusserre has more or less retired and
France Cartes seem to be in the process of taking over his business."

We all await for Dusserre to re-publish it.

I once thought I saw one locally, which I promised Lee... it turned out to be a false lead.

The last lot that a number of us managed to obtain was through kenji in Japan. I believe the stock is now exhausted.

It is bound to pop up here and there, however.

In the meantime, J-C Flornoy (Flornoy on Aeclectic) also has made a most wonderful reproduction of the Atouts (only thus far) of this deck, well worth purchasing... see his offerings at LeTarot.com.

Thanks for the Dodal info, jmd and Fulgour. Guess this goes on my wish list. I have consoled my self by initiating an order with J-C Flornoy for both the Dodal and Noblet Atouts reproductions.

This seems like the perfect opening for an enterprising
entrepreneur simply to produce an edition of the Dodal.

Bibliothèque nationale de France surely wouldn't object.

I only have the two Marseille decks but I've very attached to them both - although reading a Marseille doesn't come easy to me.

1. Conver (Thunderbay) - love the colours and style of this deck :)
2. Fournier - very different from the Conver, looks more modern and colourful - maybe too modern and colourful? - but I like it :)
