Astrological correspondences to Playing Cards

I found this great link on the astrological correspondences to playing cards. It will most likely be the same for Tarot as well. Make sure you scroll down to find the table not just the wheel in that site.
Note: when you go to that link you need to click on Zodiac involvement, on the left handside
http://www.geocites.com/canje123/cartomancy1.html

I also laid out the cards in their zodiac groupings
2,3,4,(clubs) King of Clubs = Aries
2,3,4,(Diamonds) King of Diamonds =Capricorn
2,3,4,(Hearts) King of Hearts = Cancer
2,3,4,(Spades) King of Spades = Libra

5,6,7,(clubs) Queen of clubs = Leo
5,6,7,(Diamonds) Queen of Diamonds = Taurus
5,6,7,(Hearts) Queen of Hearts = Scorpio
5,6,7,(Spades) Queen of Spades = Aqarius

8,9,10,(clubs) Jack of clubs = Sagitarius
8,9,10,(Diamonds) Jack of Diamonds = Virgo
8,9,10,(Hearts) Jack of Hearts = Pisces
8,9,10,(Spades) Jack of Spades = Gemini
The Aces are the 3 signs of their suit
clubs=Aries, Leo, Sagitarius
What has helped me with putting the groupings together is that I remember what are the Cardinal(Kings)Fixed(Queens) and Mutable(Jacks)
You will see that the opposites and squares in the court cards are of the same denomination Kings to Kings, Queen to Queen and Jack to Jacks etc.

Would like to know if anyone has seen any other pattern in these groupings

I quickly glanced at the system of astrological attributions that you cite above for the numbered cards of the 52-card playing card deck and it would appear that that system is inspired by the Golden Dawn's system of astrological attributions for the numbered minor arcana of the tarot.

http://www.supertarot.co.uk/astro/attrib.htm

Clubs = Wands
Spades = Swords
Hearts = Cups
Diamonds = Pentacles

Hi Rusty Neon

I'm not sure who inspired the correspondences. I've seen the tarot corresponces, the difference was the Knights didn't have a house but a season. I saw it in Dusty Bunkers "Numerology the Divine Triangle"
The question that is still floating is what came first, The Tarot or the playing cards? Were the Major Arcana and Pages an addition? Although the tradition of King, Queen and Jack in the playing cards represent the holy trinity.

Oh and the decans are another one I didn't think about, as each pip card in each grouping will be 10degrees in each house. I'm just thinking out aloud here.

Yahoo announced that they would be shutting down the Geocities free hosting. I lost my webpages too. *sniff*

yeah, you sent me a link for the cards and I couldn't get into the geocities links.

Can anyone explain to me the historical introduction of astrology into the playing cards? In the Playing Card Oracles they do not even mention astrology, and when I begin looking at the astrological stuff...it is pretty dense and complicated.

Had a conversation with Scion today about this, and would like to have some info in the thread to refer back to for later use.

I just got into that site with this
http://www.geocities.com/canje123/

http://www.geocities.com/twelveofhearts/timing.html
Kristen's site mentions using them as timing indicators.

I'm not sure how it all got started because there is a lot of back-and-forth about who did what first.

Olney H. Richmond set up his Order of the Magi organization around 1890s, but he doesn't explain where he got the info. Another author Thomas Morrell has published some older articles from a Willis F. Whitehead who mentions that Richmond changed up info they found elsewhere. In 1931, E.H. Bailey published Astrology and the Cards. Bailey's system is different.

Wands to Clubs (as air- fall)
Cups to Hearts (as fire- summer)
Swords to Spades (as water- winter)
Pentacles to Diamonds (as earth- spring)

4 7 10 King (cardinal)
2 5 8 Queen (fixed)
3 6 9 Jack (mutable)

Yeah I lost my three blog sites when AOL closed down theirs (and that wasn't even free, but part of the web site, hosting allowance initially given as part of your subscription).

Geocities sites are banned in Turkey so I wasn't able to access them anyway. Hope you got plenty of warning to save anything you wanted to keep from your pages!?

Canje disappeared a few years ago and then her neice kept (looked after) the site for a while. Unfortnately I never knew what became of Canje. She put a lot time & effort into the 'system' and her card deck.

Yes, the correspondances are G.D.

Hi Cardlady,
I just tried both of the addresses and couldn't get into either of them. Any other ideas on how I can get to them?
Kat
