What part of LA will you be in? There are several places, but it's a huge city that's never easy to drive through during business hours, so depending on what you're seeking and where you'll be, the answer might change. If you're comfortable saying what part(s) of town you'll be in, I can offer some possibilities, and will prioritize them for you based on what will both have some of what you seek and will be accessible to you based on your location in town.

SF...I lived in the Bay Area for 20 years, but I wasn't seriously and actively into metaphysical things until I moved away! I know there's a shop in the Castro called The Crystal Way that sells crystals, but I've never been there myself, so I can't vouch for it first-hand in terms of quality, etc. Also, there's an occult shop in Cole Valley called The Sword and Rose that might be of interest, although again, I've never actually been there myself. I was just visiting up there last week, and I wanted to check out both shops, but my schedule was too packed, so...next time!

I'm confused: Monterey isn't in or even especially near either Los Angeles or San Francisco. It's a bit over 100 miles south of San Francisco, and it's more than 300 miles north of Los Angeles. I've been there, but not in a long time, and I have no idea if they have any occult/metaphysical shops there. Your best bet would be to just hit the internet and do as much searching as you can. Good luck...

Years ago, when I lived in California, I think there was a crystal shop in Monterey in the Cannery Row district. That was in the 1980s so I have no idea if there is still one there or not. That's a big tourist area so if she goes there, there will probably be some sort of shop directory that may help her. All I got when I did a search for crystals in Monterey was this

It's essentially a bead store, but they also carry stones from what I can see.

Also, Carmel is nearby Monterey and there is a small metaphysical bookstore there called the Pilgrim's Way and Secret Garden. They have a nice covered garden area with a selection of crystals. There also sell books, incense, and some decks. It's kind of New Age-y in tone. I was just there last fall with my boyfriend and it looks as if it's still in business judging from what I found with a quick search. I remember passing a shop with crystals and stones displayed within a block of it.

Monterey area has several great New Age shops.

Luminata Books & Gifts is on Cass Street in the downtown Monterey area (an easy walk from the main street)--they had a very nice selection of crystals and other new age stuff.

In Pacific Grove (next to Monterey) is a lovely little shop connected with one of the new age churches. They had limited hours when I lived there, a nice place and a short walk to a beautiful part of the coast. http://www.pacificcoastchurchpg.org/mindshop.html

I most like Pilgrim's Way in Carmel (the next town over from Pacific Grove): http://www.pilgrimsway.com/ http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/pilg...w5i15pSoQx4YiI3O_Wme7g#w5i15pSoQx4YiI3O_Wme7g

If I could only go to one, I'd go to Pilgrim's Way.
