Relationship Problem Solving Spread

learn to read a spread

Hi all..im new as a tarot card reader so im learning the spreads.
What i want to ask is that when its written
..3..1..2
..4..5..6
Then this means that when i take 1st card i should keep it in the middle and the 2nd card on its right?
Or its just a figure and i just have to take and keep them in the counting like 1..2..3
Im lil confused specifically when i see a spread that has some card numbers in the middle.
Kindly help
