Hi everyone...yesterday I had a really heavy day; a friend who I often read for sent me 3 or 4 people who wanted tarot readings, and they were all incredibly tough ones...these people had some of the worste stories I've ever heard; almost a horror story in one case, including violent deaths and rape, which came out in the readings, and by the end of it, I was worn out, I had a massive headache, and I almost felt sick, feeling the need cleanse or "purify " myself, to get rid of the negativity I had absorbed, being a kind of sponge...I don't know of any rituals or practices for that, or to protect myself to begin with, so I was wondering if you have any thoughts about this.
Thanks....
You must be very empathetic. I can really relate to that, I am very empathetic too. You have to watch out for yourself; set and keep limits and tell people what your limits are.
These are things I find help me the most, in the order of importance:
1. Be careful how many readings you agree to do within a time and take enough of a break between them. Pay attention to how you are feeling and listen to that. I usually refuse to read for more than two people in a day. Sometimes a long in depth reading will tire me out and I'll sleep for an hour after, then I have to eat. I am often not ready for another long reading for at least a few hours. If I had 3 or 4 people approach me for readings, I tell them one or two readings per day. You may be comfortable with more readings per day, and you may find the number increases with time. Set your own limits and tell people how it is.
I never felt a need to do more readings in a day.
The better I take care of myself, the better I am able to give high quality readings.
2. Light white candles. White is purifying. The candles create positive energy in the environment when they are lit.
3. Eat a good meal after a reading, and include good protein sources like meat and eggs or cheese if you're vegetarian. I find food has a very grounding effect, especially high protein food.
4. Bathe yourself and your cards with white light after each reading; do this with the intent that it is getting rid of negative energies and it will.
5. Pray. Ask for assistance from your Gods/Goddesses. If you are worried about the person you read the cards for, give the issue up to God and let it go. Put it in God's hands.
6. Find other things to think about, watch a good movie, pick up a good book, go visit friends.
