Waterproof RWS on eBay and Etsy?

Galahad

It refers to which version of the original decks has been used when the seller says: "meticulously taken from original artwork." Which very early copy of the deck has had had to work with ?

Hi! This link will give you some visual details that can help clarify. The Sun card in particular.

Thanks for all the info! Took a look at all the links. Compared The Lovers and The Sun a lot. Guess I know now where the seller got his source from.

I'm not an expert in tarot edition identification, and the the colors are different because it's a repro, so I'm not 100% sure. Nevertheless, it looks like Pam A (not the Roses and Lilies, especially since the back is pebbled). There's probably someone on here who would be a better judge.

Learned something today. :)

I bought the non waterproof one off ebay. I thought they were crap. I was very disappointed. They are so thin it's like paper.

You thought they were crap because, as you say "they are so thin it's like paper"?

Is that the only reason? As someone who likes these cards, I would be glad to hear some constructive criticism, because that could point out any flaws in my own assessment and possibly change my opinion and others' for the good of the community.

Regarding your 'thin' criticism of the cards, here's a comparison picture for people to judge:

On the left is a lightly used original Albano-Waite, and on the right is a new MagusMicks RWS. Both decks are weighed down by Scotch Tape dispensers.

Certainly Galahad, I will offer constructive criticism. In my opinion the cards are thin and they do not feel good in my hands. Maybe this isn't an issue for you as cards feel differently to people. I prefer a more "rigid" card stock. Almost the entire deck is streaked, front and back. You can see it in these photos I took. I do not see these streaks in the older scanned decks. If you do, can you point me to the photos of original streaked decks?

Also I prefer a card that I cannot do this to.

I just tested and I can do that with almost every card I tried. Even some quite thick ones.

I guess I am too chicken to try that with the stiffer cards in fear I might injure them. :)

Thank you Darytessekhmet. I agree on the subjectivity of card feel; to each his/her own.

I bought three poker size decks, and the streaking shown in your images was not present in any of these decks (,and I posted some images in earlier posts). Statistically, this could mean a printing error or an issue with the standard size deck.

Mentioned in my earlier review, I did have a couple complaints about the deck, so perhaps we could express our issues to the seller, and see if he would be willing to modify his cards to the tarot community's collective liking.
