The nodes are points and as such they can receive aspects from planets but they cannot make aspects (they do not reflect the light of the Sun like the Planets do). The nodes mark the points where the Moon crosses the ecliptic moving north (North Node) and then crosses it again moving south (South node) - they are the lunar equivalent of the vernal and autumnal equinoxes. Also like the equinoxes they move over time - though in the case of the Moon's nodes (all planets have nodes incidentally) they take about 18 years to complete a circuit of the Zodiac (as opposed to something like 24,000 years with the equinoxes).
The north node is often referred to as the Dragon's head and the south node as the dragon's tail. The South node is traditionally taken as indicating some important lessons that we have to learn (it is a bit like Saturn in that respect) Karmic astrologers see it as shedding some light on our past lives and the karma that we bring to this life.
The north node shows our opportunities for growth in this life, though to be successful these need to grow from the 'base' of the south node.
North node in Aries means that the south node is in Libra and brings to this life a harmony and balance. However if you try and maintain this harmony at the expense of growth then you will fall into the trap of the south node - that of sticking with what is familiar and failing to take advantage of opportunities. You need to work with the Aries north node to take advantage of your individual identity while still remaining aware of the need for interpersonal relationships. Its not enough to have balance you must also be able to express your individuality.
