Harry Potter Tarot

HudsonGray

I couldn't find it in a search, but when I typed in "Harry Potter Cards" it came up with a ton of collectible cards, game cards & several games. I wonder if it's a spinoff of one of those? Most of the cards were put out by Warner Brothers (they have the legal rights at this point to the movie & products).

Though I did find two 'personal' decks made off movie stills from the first two movies (they said no stealing or selling, this was for fun only) and one deck where someone was painting the characters on the cards.

Found a site that used to sell the Chinese cards, but they said "sold out".

Hi all,

My housemate and I sat down one rainy day and 'created' a Harry Potter Tarot... Well, we wrote the article, and decided what cards would be what, and for some cards got the images in our heads. We won't create the images because neither of us can draw very well, but this has been a fun exercise nonetheless. We plan on completing it further when the rest of the books are out...

Anyway, here's the link to the article:

Moonmaiden: As you can see in this article, we put Voldemort as separate from Tom Riddle. :D

Thanks for the link Webwitch... *Kiama clicks away*

Blessings,

Oh I believed you that it was a tarot deck, it's just that search engines have a really hard time finding things on asian sites, so all I was able to locate were mostly the trading cards & other movie paraphanalia.

I wonder if, after all the movies are made, there will be a deck released?

But I'd still want to see a Harry Potter deck made that would be what the students at Hogwarts would use. Now THAT would really be something. Nice, old, archaeic looking. Lots of mysterious symbology. Yeah!

HudsonGray: I'm pretty certain that no 'proper' Harry Potter Tarot will ever be made. The rights would need to be bought off Warner Brothers, and JKR has already had enough stick about 'witchcraft' and 'devilry' that she won't want to be associated with Tarot. And I can see her point: why make it harder on yourself?

It is a shame though, because the HP stories, like all good Fantasy stories, have the right ingredients for a cool Tarot deck.

You can see some extra pictures of the "Harry Potter Tarot" at www.tarotgarden.com

(sorry, I can't work out how to link to the actual page)

I would love to see something like that!

Cheers,

I read only the first book, but have seen all of the films. What about "Fluffy", the three headed dog, for one of the minor's cards. Also, that cloak of invisibility is pretty cool--maybe Nine of Cups, the wish card, or perhaps Ace of Pentacles? What about the dreaded Three of Swords (all piercing the heart). Wouldn't the special platform in the Train station and Train to Hogwarts itself fit in somewhere? Also that great flying car. Maybe the Ghost of the Baron with his head cut off would make a good swords suit card.

I get that, "You are a Tarot Reader so therefore you practice witchcraft" nonsense all the time, myself. Ignorance truly must be blissful because it certainly is epidemic these days. Poor J.K. She is following the British Literary Tradition of Scapegoat--just like Lewis Carroll and the author of "Peter Pan". Not to mention The Beatles. Sometimes a book or a song is amusement and people miss the important enjoyment aspect looking for something lurid underneath. Oh, if only C. Jung were alive--what a hey day he would have with all of that subversive nonsense coming out of their own muggle-mudded minds.

Missed This Thread the First Time Around

Not sure how, but I didn't see this thread bouncing about until just now.

FYI, the topic has cropped up before on this thread:

Here's my contribution within that thread as to one reason why a "real" Harry Potter hasn't been published yet:

And here's the direct link to the Asian "Harry Potter Tarot," as documented in the Tarot Garden database:

(For future reference: information on how to create a workable link to an individual Tarot Garden database entry can be found here:)
