Kwaw Li Ya was Crowley's Chinese alias

Fulgour

Reading the following article (click on link)
I found some interesting Crowleyisms...

http://www.billheidrick.com/tlc2001/tlc0201.htm

In the editorial notes they refer to Kwaw, saying;

Chinese Aphorisms of Kwaw --

Kwaw Li Ya was Crowley's version of his own name in Chinese,
and the aphorisms are presumably writings produced during his
travels through China in 1905 e.v. Crowley later published some
articles on Asian poetry under the name of Kwaw Li Ya...
identified as a professor of poetry at the University of Pekin.

So Crowley invented the poet, wrote the poetry
and then criticised himself with references to:

...the obscene Chinese Aphorisms of Kwaw
...the nameless bestialities of Kwaw

A+ for Aleister :)

Ripper! Old Crowl enchants and delights with his imagination again.

So knowing this chappie had a penchant for a bit of fun, why do folks never twig that his persona might have been a smokescreen too? I didn't actually start paying attention to that until I bought Lon DuQuette's book which has snippets from Frieda about conversations with Uncle Aleister.

Totally different than the persona.

AC had so many facets in his personality, I often wonder who or what the like he really was.
Reminds me of a friend of mine who had lived so many different lifestyles but still has not found himself. Suppose it was similar with beasty boy Crowley.

Fronterance

Oh God, I'm dying of laughter over here! I just found this list.

A rather impressive list of pseudonyms, wouldn't you say? Was he going for the world record or something? :D

Now I am pretty sure he had a multiple persons problem. :D

Aeon418

Most of those names are taken from the Equinox. Crowley wrote many of the articles under a pseudonym to make it look as if there were many different contributors. He didn't actually use them in real life.

pseudonym: A false or fictitious name, esp. one assumed by an author.

I think in real life they are called aliases.

Thanks for correcting me. ;)
