Sabian Symbol for Dalai Lama's Ascendant ... Eerily Suitable

Today I was looking over the Sabian Symbols and I was checking out various degrees that were of interest, when I happened to notice that the Dalai Lama is a Cancer Ascendant at 12° of Cancer. So, I hop over to reference the Sabian Symbol for 12° Cancer and my jaw actually dropped, it reads: "A slant-eyed Chinese woman is nursing a baby, and about the child is the glorious nimbus of divine incarnation." Divine incarnation, huh? How's that for accuracy!

...wowwie. Just goes to show you, NOTHING is ever coincidence. If I'm correct, isn't the current Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatzo, July-born? So he's a double-Cancer, then.

That reminds me...WHAT THE HECK ARE SABIAN SYMBOLS?!?!

I'd always liked the the Dalai Lama and that's a very beautiful depiction of who he is at the heart--or at least who he projects to be from his Asc.'s perspective. I'd wondered how much stock to put in Sabian symbols, but, thanks to your post, I think I'll give them another look

At second glance, the Dalai Lama's sun is conjunct his ascendant at 12° Cancer, so it's even a double whammy!

The Sabian Symbols are an interesting project. They came about when a well known astrologer came up with an idea to illustrate each degree of the zodiac. The astrologer collaborated with a gifted clairvoyant, and together they went through each degree and dictated the impressions they collected. Those impressions and images became the Sabian Symbols.

It's certainly not intended to be a precise art or anything, but they can be illuminating, or just fun. The symbol for my ascendant at 9° Gemini is;
"A medieval archer stands with the ease of one wholly sure of himself, bow in hand and quiver filled with arrows."
My favorite is the symbol for my North Node at 29° Leo;
"A mermaiden has climbed to the rocky shore of a bleak coast; she awaits the prince who will bring her immortality."
