Schaffhouse photoreproduction?

Rasa

I saw a deck for sale on Ebay that I hadn't seen before, and thought I'd see if anyone knows exactly who published this and under what name...
The images are these ones

exactly, down to the stains on the cards.

The trionfi site says 'AGMuller', but in my googling and forum-scrounging, I couldn't find any evidence of such a deck. Can anyone provide an ISBN?
If this was a readily-availble, massed produced deck, how did I manage to miss it before?? It's absolutely lovely!

The ebay sale is from a vendor in HongKong, and the listing claims the deck is from 2002. I've asked the seller if they can tell me the publisher or show a picture of the box, but haven't received a response yet.

(For any interested parties, it's a 'buy it now' rather than an auction, so someone should snap this beauty up quickly!)

I just received this message from the seller:

"handmade, no publisher."

It appears their other auctions are all overpriced Russian decks which all have 'self-published' in the title.

Although I suppose that Schaffhouse is technically out of copyright, if it hasn't been republished (or are the scans of the antique copyrightable?).

...Probably best to avoid this one, sorry folks.

Too bad, it looks lovely.

I love looking at those Kaplan auction images.. it's really like porn for Tarot collectors lol.

It breaks my heart to see how little that deck sold for, for a genuine antique (since I wasn't there to bid)! I would have bought that in a second!

Sulis

I recently got a deck that I think is a Schaffhouse reproduction. It's published by AG Mueller, the deck is lovely but I can't stand the backs and so don't use it. It's discussed in this thread and was bought from ebay quite cheaply: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=173787

The AGM deck that Sulis references is nearly identical to the deck linked to at trionfi, and you can get it for around 12 bucks from an ebayer in California rather than paying 80 bucks from a sketchy HK ebayer.

But like Sulis warns, the card backs are not visually appealing at all. Otherwise, it's a really nice deck that is not easy to find in the US (outside of a single ebay seller).

I was aware of that edition from AGmuller, and also the 'Tarot Classic' one, but modern redrawings never seem to have the same feel as the facsimilies of antique decks, with aged looking paper, mistakes in the woodblock printing, saturated inky colours, etc.

The line drawings are the same, but the overall feel of the deck isn't, in my opinion.

In any case, despite that, I won't be buying any questionable counterfeits from China. :p
