I don't know anything about how to get a chart? Is that the first step?? I could use some guidance in the right detection...Thank you for your time. A good book? I've seen software but have no idea where to start...

RohanMenon

There is a book list at

with books sorted by beginner/intermediate etc.

I am no expert, but if you get stuck with something, there are many experienced astrologers on this Forum who will help you out.

Good Luck.

And Free Software

There's also a thread on free software available:

To begin learning you need two things:

Firstly chart; and that is where the software comes in. All you need is the, time, date and place where an event occurred ,(such as a birth - your own or somebody elses).. The software will produce the chart.

Alternatively you can use a website such as stronger.com, which will produce a chart from exactly the same info. In both cases use the default settings. As you learn more you can play about with the settings.

Secondly you need. Book to help you understand and interpret the chart. There are a lot of introductory texts, I you can have a browse in a bookshop and choose one you like from the list RohanMenon refers to. Alternatively Amazon allows some browsing before you buy. At this stage you don't really need to know which approach to Astrology you will eventually follow, just start with something that appeals to you.

Later on you can look at some of the debates over methods but keep it simple for the time being.

And remember you can ask 'dumb question's. We all start with those and some of us still ask them after 40 years of study. They are the best way to learn.
