Re: Gypsy fortune telling cards by Piatnik Vienna, Zigeuner Wahrsagekarten No. 1901

anyone bought or used these cards at all? They are on ebay from a lady who has written a book about them...

DrTodd

These are great and are related in some ways to the Le Normand cards. Check the backs however, since some of them come with a gypsy 'witch' image that might put you off...

I used to have this deck which is still in print

http://www.piatnik.com/english/playcards/tarot.htm

They are only 3.25 pounds sterling (sorry my keyboard has gone weird so can't find the pound symbol)from R Somerville http://www.playingcardsales.co.uk/cards/ , so $10.99 looks a bit expensive to me although of course there's the postage.

Here's more images

May be worth negotiating down? Around $6 or so?

ETA: I see you are in the UK, so I would definitely recommend buying from R Somerville. Fantastic value, great service. Pay in pounds even though he's now based in France.

I was given a set. I haven't used them, but I keep handling them. They feel nice, but look a little kooky. Who knows - the moment I actually use them I'll possibly fall deeply in love ...

By the way, it's the Gypsy Witch cards that have the witch on the back I believe - not the same set. Here's a site that tells you all about the different kinds of cards and the different decks you can get.

The author doesn't like the Gypsy Witch cards at all. Likes the Gyspsy Fortune Telling Cards though.

I have these and I like them because of personal history. But honestly can't read with them, they make me laugh.

Thanks for posting this. I just ordered the Gypsy Fortune Telling cards through LuckyMogo.com. Hungarian Gypsy blood runs through my veins (my great grandmother) and I've been looking for something like this. Again, thanks.

Thank you Aerin for your link, I took a tour of the site and was impressed with the variety and the prices... there were so many cards listed on there it was like a little treasure chest!
Thank you Dr. Todd, too for your comment, and to sstack2 ..nisaba, and Alta.

Are these the same as the Art Deco cards? They look really similar, but I noticed Fidelity has a different scene. The backs are exactly the same, though...

Same company, same sorts of card names but the pictures are art deco rather than Edwardian.

They may have different numbers of cards too, should be on the site I linked to above.

(I just checked, all the details are indeed on that site: the Gypsy ones are 36 cards, Art Deco is 52 so it is an expanded deck.)
