What image/symbol/word/thought comes to mind when you think of the Wheel of Fortune

Sinduction

The four elements. And how that connects all of life together.

Sometimes I see it as fire, water, air, and earth but also as carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen. I like to link astrology to that too, with the fixed signs.

I watched a lot of Mr Wizard while I was growing up. Does that date me too much? I mean, I watched a lot of Bill Nye "The Science Guy" during my childhood. :D

Lately, I feel like the Serentity Prayer is an appropriate sentiment for The Wheel:

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

The phrase that pops into my head is, "A change of luck".

:) When I see the Wheel of Fortune in a reading...Initially, I think of a whirling FERRIS WHEEL ...
...what goes up must come down...and what comes down must go back up...

Upright:
I think of planet "Jupiter's (good luck) fire and action" moving in the person's life
and about happiness and/or love shining upon them. But I mostly think about
the "timing" that brings "unstoppable" destiny and "successful" MAJOR changes into their life.

Reversed:
I think: "No success right now" and that the person is not having good luck
with anything right then, or rather, it is NOT a good time for them to take a
gamble on "anything." I also think that their plans are delayed and not working out.

I wanted to say it's been enlightening, fun and fascinating reading everyones responses! Wouldn't it be great if we did this with other cards?

I think of one time when I was about 7 or 8. My elementary school was having a little fundraising Carnival in the gym at our school. I had tickets to go play games while my mom stayed busy running the game booth that benefited my homeroom. Being a sweets-loving pudgy kid, I ran over to the cake walk. There was one of those big makeshift wheels like on "Regis and Kelly". I would stand with one ticket on a number- I think it was 1-50. Out of four tries, I won three cakes, my mom was beside herself by the third cake, starting giving them away to neighbors. "How are we going to eat all these cakes? No more playing the cake walk!"
Last October I took my son to a little carnival and he played his very first cake walk. One ticket, one nice yellow cake with milk chocolate icing. It was good.

That's where my thoughts on wheel of fortune go. Luck, will, magical manifestation from endless possibilities. :) (...and Cake!)

I see Time, a clock-face.

I see wheels that are described in the book of Ezekiel the first chapter. When I read that, I see wheels with fire and faces of the creatures that were described in same chapter. That imagery also reminds me of what I would see as a kid just before a major migraine would hit. Pretty awesome!!

Anyway, the symbology for me states that the wheel of fortune should be renamed IMO the wheel of fate. Now if you are a believer in the creation of your own destiny, then a human hand should be turning the wheel. If you are a believer of a higher power controlling your destiny, then perhaps a mysterious looking etherial hand coming out of the mists would do the trick. I prefer to have both represented as the wheel of fate (fortune) moves when man and the divine are in tangent.

Make sense? No?

A roulette wheel, Lady Luck presiding.

It's interesting being around people who play: there's always a few with a system they believe in. We usually have a joke system between ourselves, like prime numbers or triangle numbers or whatever, the weirder the better.

My husband's greatest moment came when he suddenly said 'eleven' when the wheel was turning and bet just before bets closed. He won, and after that several players tried to 'tune in' to his luck by following him. One woman asked him what system he was playing.

Most wheels now have the American 00 on as well as the 0. It loads the odds further in the casino's favour.
