Reading Ethics in Exchanges

Thanks. And uhm yeah, it's spelled GotH. Don't think I didn't pick up on your hidden message, whether it was spoken or not.

Peace and happiness to you..
There's no hidden message; it's totally open - there are just some readings I won't do, so I would be an irritant for you in there, is all.

Sorry about the spelling. My spellcheck actually wanted me to call you Goth - I must've put back only one cap !!

Peace to you also.

While I recognize the need some people have for their codes of ethics, I think personal responsibility also needs to be considered. I have had many, many jobs in my time, ranging from online casinos to convenience stores and everything in between. In many cases I did things that may have in fact hurt people but I didn't put the rope around their throats. I didn't force them to gamble, buy fattening things or cigarettes.

There just comes a point where ethics come off as preachy and self-righteous. People are people and behave like them. If I were a customer and arrived at a site with a wall of text proclaiming the reader's ethics, I probably wouldn't stay for very long.

I have come to learn that their are a billion different people on earth and thus a billion different ways to see something.

Wouldn't it be bland if everyone was exactly the same?

I recall a thread a while ago, maybe a year, where the subject of reading for an extra-marital affair was discussed. Opinions were rather polarized, as was to be expected. I was actually surprised at how many people wouldn't read about that because it was immoral. Now, puritanical concerns aside I think that in many cases a good Tarot reader puts aside their own values for the benefit of the querent.

Although this thread is not strictly about ethics (there are more than enough that are, though), I think that even in the relative "safety" of the exchanges one can at least try to remember that a Tarot reading is for the person receiving it and they may have any number of issues and worries that may not completely gel with our own lifestyles but and nevertheless quite valid. Sometimes this may mean doing third-party readings, for example, or other things that are looked down on. Just as we try to be neutral when interpreting the cards, a sense of empathy and understanding is just as vital when fielding questions. The exchanges here on AT are very good schools for this.

I don't think professional readers that exclude third party readings make much money.

On this website, I think many folks put out rules as a way to limit exposure to certain members. I don't have a problem with this approach, everyone should exercise what they deem to be healthy boundaries. Just like I won't sign up for reading threads if I don't feel the vibe to engage with that particular person.

I apologize, my remarks were not meant to be antagonistic, but rather to encourage flexibility and an open mind when doing readings here and elsewhere. In many threads here clear vision of the reading free of bias is encouraged and I feel that the same goes in accepting questions. It just doesn't feel right for a Tarot reader to judge their querents, the differences in values ought to be recognized.

Well said. I agree.

ETA: No apology necessary in my book. :)

I thought your post was fine, and I agree with every word of it. Now mod me })

Sometimes intonation is harder to read in print. I understood what you were saying as a kind and helpful comment. :)
