Lo Scarabeo - Eight of Pentacles

This card is, again, a mixing of RWS and Thoth that pretty much leaves out the Marseilles part of the deck. Honestly, I see the RWS and Thoth meanings as very similar for this card, just illustrated differently, and I think the LS shows that beautifully. The young man on the bench, working hard at his carving, is taken from the RWS. The large flowering plant behind him is taken from the Thoth deck, and the title of the Thoth card is Prudence.

Crowley wrote in the book of Thoth that this card 'signifies intelligence lovingly applied to material matters, especially those of the agriculturist, the artificer and the engineer." Isn't that the perfect statement for the RWS card as well? And so now it becomes the perfect descriptor for our LS card. Perhaps the boy has planted this flower, perhaps he is just working under the shade of a plant lovingly cultivated by another. Either way, this card shows that working diligently, and a bit of patience, will certainly pay off and 'flower' into something good.

You know, there's some similarities in this card with the 3 Pents.
They're both working hard and diligently in their craft.
