a question about the fool's dog, help please!!!

ravenest

This is interesting to me, immersed in Death as I am present. It does show the connection between Death and the Fool, as any new endeavor carried within it the seeds of its own termination (for better or worse, of course). Orion is also an example of Hubris, as he boasted that he would kill all living things, and was eventually killed by Scorpio, i.e., Death.

Wasn't he resurrected again? By Asclepius (however it's spelt ?) or Opheichus - whose constellation stands on the ecliptic next to the Scorpion (but has been removed from the zodiac ... although the image can be seen in the World / Universe card ... which is no longer attributed to a zodiac position but a 'planet').

In the old calendar, Kislev was indeed the ninth month, as the month of Passover was the first. However since then, Tishrey was set as the first month, the month of the harvest. There is probably a reason for this, but I don't know it for certain.

Oh, okay, so we will remove that old etymological calandar reference and stick with the fool one :)

Probably unrelated, but I wonder if the Inquisition has any connection to the dog, through the Dominicans, who were powerful in the order, known as the Domini Canis, a play on words.

I see a connection between their dynamic and Orion's. Both trying to wipe out the 'other world' view.

Orion, in this context, seems like Hercules (see my thread in spirituality) in that they represent the literalist materialist rational ego projected in to the mythic/ daimonic realm. These myths show averse reaction to the initiatory process (as opposed to the accepting reactions of other heroes, gods and shamans) ; killing the wild animals ... attacking his beloved (a symbol of his own soul), etc. The inquisition seems one of those strange breakouts in society where the mythic is SOOO repressed by the literalist interpretation that the demonic world breaks out and manifests in the 'literalist rational ego projection as a 'demonic projection' which is then totally irrational (but totally literalist/rational in its own context ... i.e. an inversion) .... and THAT seems a pretty close definition of the Inquisition .

Can you believe that to this day there are people who defend the role of the Dominicans in the Inquisition? The nastiest, meanest dog in the world is a sweet little puppy compared to the Domini Canis.

This is a little off topic, but I once read a post in another forum in which someone was defending the Inquisition. She wrote that it wasn't bad at all because they had strict rules. For example, they couldn't torture children or the elderly. (By golly, that was really considerate of them! That surely opened my eyes to how nice the Inquisition was. I always thought it was a bunch of bad guys. Silly me!)

Another first for 'intuitive knowledge' .

did you ever see this tiny dog in a good sense? I was wondering me that because some time it looks for me like the SnowWhite's stepmather when like a old tender grandmother is saying to her " bite, bite this beautiful and very brigth red apple ". You already know the rest of the tale. May this dog be crying: " jump, jump, there is no problem "?. May be advertising about some body near us that want we do something without see correctly ( like the fool that is not seeing to the front ) a very dangerous thing? Which're your thoughts?

The little dog to me has always indicated that the card is warning the "fool" on his journey, to be cautious.... Or there might actually be someone in the querents life who is cautioning him

The Fool and his Dogs

Well ... on that certain inexplicable level ... Canis major is the hunting dog of Orion. so that makes Orion the Fool in the tarot ... more 'proof' that constellations are the base of Majors in the Tarot ;) (and I can say that here because we are not in the history forum. :)

I do believe that the constellations are the base of the Majors in the Tarot, but I believe that The Fool card is represented in the constellation Bootes, the Herdsman. Furthermore, the dog in the card is a representation of the hunting dogs Canes Venatici, his only constant companions. His bag is seen in the stars of Ursa Major.

To the left of Bootes is the constellation Corona Borealis which can be recognized as a circlet of stars that resembles a crown and is represented as a sun in the Fool card. Below Bootes lies the constellation Virgo, and some of the stars of Virgo were once known as the mountains of Mons Maenalus.

See this artwork that I was the art director for picturing Bootes as the Fool:

Tarot Trumps in the Constellations

What a wonderful picture! Is your theory of a source of Tarot in the constellations based on the RWS, Marseille or Visconti-Sforza images?

The picture of The Fool was based on the RWS image. The theory of the source of the tarot trumps in the constellations was based upon epigraphic analysis of the ancient alphabet, which according to my findings was based on a set of constellations that was used around the world for calendars, counting, and writing. The tarot trumps are based on the same set of constellations which are listed in this post:

Other images in the RWS are easily seen in this study done with Jamieson star maps:

Any Hyginus star maps:

Using this method one could possibly compare the trump images with ancient star maps to determine any deviation from the constellation image, such as a dog becoming a tiger.
