Face Down or Face Up?

I always lay cards facedown and then flip them up before starting with the reading. This is how I have always done it (this is also how I do it in my apps, by the way).

Mainly it is like this because I've been doing that for 20 years :p But if I think about it, the reasons are:

- I dont want to see one card after another while laying the cards out, and neither does the querent. I feel it distracts from the final message
- I like to set the spread out, take a look at the card backs, and then flip the cards over for a reveal.

When I start with my readings (for others), the first thing I always do is take a look at the patterns: "many Majors", "mostly Swords", "court cards" etc. I point out focal cards and how others influence them. Then I move onto explaining individual cards. Works like a charm
