Original Rider deck: scratches/scores in laminate.

abrxs93

Hi,
Recently I purchased a deck of the Original Rider Waite but many cards had
annoying horizontal scratch/score lines in the cards' thick glossy laminate.
I thought it was just a bad deck and binned them only to buy another set
with the same scratches. Any idea how to pick a set which is not marred by
this defect ? I may wait a while to let the bad ones be sold off and see if
better quality ones appear ?

update: new printing of Original Rider-Waite

I'm glad to say as has been reported elsewhere on this forum that
the scored glossy edition has been phased out and a new printing
marked made in China has been released. Better colors, satin
finished cards and the deck is thicker when stacked against the
made in Italy edition which was faulty. Beware also the made in
Italy box set with the Key to the Tarot as some sets have cards
which are mis-cut with wavy bottom edges.

I am planning on purchasing this deck so this information is very helpful to me. Now I know to look for the Made in China edition. Thank you for sharing. I would have been very disappointed if I unwittingly purchased a deck with scratches and wavy bottom edges.
