Talking and eloquence are not the same: to speak and to speak well are two things. A fool may talk, but a wise man speaks.
Ben Jonson

But words are things, and a small drop of ink, falling like dew upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think.
Lord Byron

The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shockproof, shit detector. This is the writer's radar and all great writers have it.
Ernest Hemingway

In medieval times, people thought that evil spirits could enter a person through an open mouth. These days they more often leave that way.
David Deckert

The December new Moon, happening on 27th JDecember, is a very powerful one as Mars and Pluto are smack together with the Sun and the Moon, all in the first 6 degrees of Capricorn. We also have Mercury and Jupiter in Capricorn, so that makes 6 planets occupying this rather practical, money and security-oriented earth sign. This is a powerhouse of energy packed-up and backed-up and needing to be released in some way.

It is especially powerful as the Sabian Symbol for the new Moon is one that contains enormous energy in its own right; Capricorn 7: A Veiled Prophet Speaks Seized By the Power of a God. This Symbol makes this new Moon a very strong time to be making your affirmations and intentions not only for the month, but for the year ahead.

The message is to get started on your new year's resolutions now as the energy is geared up and ready to go forth.

This Symbol can picture anyone, or any thing, that can bring information or knowledge through to others, especially those who are willing to listen. The 'Veiled Prophet' may be someone who holds the key to questions that need to be answered. They can be a mouthpiece for the agenda of others, or, someone who's words hold a great charge. However, there's a need to be cautious as well as receptive; one needs to check the integrity or source of this message or information.

The trick with this new Moon is to be discriminating about what you take as 'gospel' but to also check your own thoughts and words. What is running through your mind? Is it useful? Do you stop to think before speaking? Is what you're thinking or passing onto others necessary or useful or hurtful? Do you need to talk about what you're talking about? What could be the ramifications of loose lips or gossip?

From my book 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle:
Information is coming through someone, or something, and it may be difficult to know whether to fully trust it. With our modern age of communications, we can receive incredible amounts of information. This can include all sorts of theories and wonders. Some will be useful while some stretch the truth. With such power contained in words, we have to be careful about what we say as well as what we hear. As this pictures a 'Veiled Prophet', there can be complications associated with the “message” that's being spoken.

As the 'Prophet' is 'Seized By The Power of a God', it can be very powerful and useful knowledge that is being bestowed. Sometimes these messages have fabulous revelations and kernels of truth that can lead you on a quest for more insight into how the world operates. There’s often words and insights that we can live our lives by, although not everyone will be swayed or influenced by this 'Prophet', however he or she can have an immense 'Power' of attraction and persuasion.

Remember to be careful to sift through the real meaning of what’s being said. Look carefully for the signs—is it truth that you are being fed? This powerful energy can be used for the good of all involved, or it can just lead people astray. The old saying goes that words are like a “sword”- they can cut deeply and leave a vast impression, for good and for bad.

Keywords: Hypnotherapy or hypnotic suggestion. Manipulation of lesser beings. Having insights that transport to other levels. Channeling and medium-ship. Translations. Prophets and bringers of messages. Empowerment. Messages erupting. Speaking. Announcing. Bearing important news. Power. Charisma. Veils. Background voices.

The Caution: Conscious manipulation and propaganda. Not owning up to all the elements of one’s personality. Denying expression. Blurting out things that hurt or alienate. Barging into others' conversations. Leading people astray with exaggeration or lies. False impressions.

The degree after this new Moon, Capricorn 8, is the Quest Symbol. It is Capricorn 8: Birds in the House Singing Happily. This degree speaks of contentment (and the need or desire for it), music, bird songs, the spreading of good cheer and light vibes. If we notice the birds in our environment and listen to their songs, it can lift our spirits and change how we're feeling. We can also receive messages from birds as they are said to bring joy, and, we can enjoy watching as well as listening to them.

Further this is Jupiter on Capricorn 28: A Large Aviary. This degree speaks about getting along and living together in a community and it also speaks of talking, chattering, flitting about and communicating with those in one's environment. Again, there's a message here to be mindful of chattering about things that might affect others. This is one of the degrees that represents the mainstream media, as well as the internet.

The need to connect in with one's spiritual purpose and work can be very strong as Mercury, the planet of communications, is on Capricorn 24: A Woman Entering a Convent. Quiet times, times of solitude, dedication to higher causes and focusing on what's important. Notice the church or religion theme with The Veiled Prophet and The Woman Entering a Convent. Add to that Pluto on Capricorn 2: Three Stained Glass Windows in a Cathedral, One is Damaged by Bombardment (this was the degree of Mars on September 11, 2001). This speaks of the need, indeed the necessity of rebuilding hope and faith. As Dane Rudhyar said about this degree: 'Which part of man's inner trinity of principles tends to be destroyed by the use of violence? Evidently the principal of love and compassion'.

Mars, the rather hairy red planet that drives us forward with ambition, anger, aggression and our sexual drives, is on Capricorn 1: An Indian Chief Claims Power From the Assembled Tribe. With Mars on this degree and Pluto having just gone over it, we're really being pushed to stand up, make our claims, stake our places and assert our individual power and assert our rights.

Within a day or two after the new Moon, Mars will conjunct Pluto on the Three Stained Glass Windows degree. This ratchets up the need for not only claiming our dues but for making sure we don't make mince meat of our lives in our endeavor to push forward. A few deep breaths, some creative visualizations and concentrating on love can lift us up above the rather reptilian responses that can come from this configuration. It's great for self actualization, but there can be rubble where once stood a proud history/relationship/institution/sense of self, etc. Going gently into that space is the prescription here!

There's bound to be readjustments in relationships of all kinds. The Moon's north node is at Aquarius 10: A Man Who Had for a Time Become the Embodiment of an Ideal is Made to Realize That as a Person He is Not This Ideal. This speaks of waking up to the truth of a matter. Whether it's a relationship that's crumbling, coming to terms with your feelings about yourself and how you project your self image, realizing that what you thought was wonderful is far less than the ideal, there's likely to be some kind of clash between reality and fantasy. We can have an attitude adjustment and find something far more realistic and with more integrity - about ourselves or others.

This Symbol for the karmic north node is likely to be very interesting as this is the degree of the node on Inauguration Day = when Barack Obama becomes President of the United States. George W. Bush is likely to be finding assessments of his presidency as being rather less than ideal (please note - I'm restraining myself here).

There's another conjunction - Venus and Neptune exactly together on Aquarius 23: A Big Trained Bear Sitting Down and Waving All its Paws. There could be a feeling of having to react somewhat like a 'trained bear', like you're in a circus, having to perform or do things that you either don't want to or aren't part of your desires of natural repertoire. This speaks, again, about the need to be true to oneself. Ideals may have to be adjusted and rose colored glasses taken off in order to see what's really going on in the world around us.

Saturn, the planetary ruler of Capricorn, and that old guy that pushes our buttons and expects us to do our duty, fulfill our obligations and stand up to the tests of life, is where we may find a vital clue to being authentic and staying on track.

The Sabian Symbol is Virgo 22: A Royal Coat of Arms Enriched With Precious Stones. Remember your nobility, your sense of self and your beauty and wealth no matter what life may be throwing at you. This is a powerful and meaningful time. Conscious direction of our intentions is the way to go.

Seasons greetings to all my friends, new and old, reading this - may you all have a delightful holiday season.
