Alchemical Study Group – Eight

Leisa

(from the book)

Eight. Eight is a higher order of four, the number of wholeness. It represents regeneration and the spiritual goal of the initiate. An eight lying on its side is the lemniscate, the symbol of eternity or infinity, the Alpha and Omega, infinite wisdom and higher consciousness. An eight right side up resembles a spiral, which is a symbol of evolution, growth and flexibility.

In the Hermetica, eight is the magical number of Hermes Trismegistus.

The octagon, the eight-sided figure, represents a transition between the square (wholeness) and the circle (the unmanifest).

When eight appears in the Tarot, it often represents a spiritual balance in relation to the card or situation. Eight is the number of Justice in the Major Arcana, the ultimate cosmic balance.
