Ans Après: French playing cards

Bernice

Ans Après:

This deck commemorates the French involvement in Algeria. The courts show Arab or French military or religious figures, and there are coats-of-arms on the Aces. I saw them a few years ago and was tempted to get them, I have finally given in and ordered them today. The design is unusual, and as a bonus (for divination purposes :)), the joker is the Hand of Fatima! Ideal to use as a Significator (or whatever... Karma?)

When they arrive I'll try and post some scans of the other suits, swords/spades, batons/clubs, cups/hearts.

Is anyone using this deck?

I now have this deck.

The pip cards arn't what I expected. I assumed that the only pip card shown in the few samples (10 Clubs), was from the suit of Coins. But no, all the suit emblems, hearts, diamonds, clubs & spades, are shown within a circle. The 'red' suits have a very dark red background, the 'black' suits have a mid-blue.

Some scans attached. It would be very easy to spot a reversed card for certain numbers, i.e. 9, 7 etc. as can be seen in the scans.

From a mild disappointment (no swords, cups etc), I've warmed up to this deck, and I love the back design.

Bernice, I really really like the look of this deck! I love reading with playing cards, and it's difficult to find such exotic decks around here...

Where did you find it?

For reasons I don't understand, it somehow reminds me of the Royal Fez Moroccan tarot....
