Nine. Because it is the last of the single integers, nine represents completion, fulfillment, attainment and the realization of truth. In the Eleusinian Mysteries, there were nine spheres through which the consciousness had to pass before it could be born anew. Nine also is the number of humankind, symbolizing the nine months of gestation before physical birth.
In the Tarot, nine generally represents culmination, maximum or achievement, and can be applied to any situation in life: emotions, activity, intellect, spiritual quest, relationships, etc. In the Major Arcana, nine is the number of the Hermit, who has attained a peak of wisdom and withdraws to contemplate it.
