Hey Maan, thanks for this post! I have Kraig's book on "Modern Magick" and think it's quite good, so this is good news. In his book, he insists that anybody studying ceremonial magick must also develop a system of divination, and the Tarot is his pick. He has his own spread in the book, using only the major arcana.

I will be on the lookout for this book!

List of the Chapters

I had to work today and didn't have a chance to even poke this one. Tomorrow is my day off, and I know what I'm going to be doing (as in reading this book.)

In the introduction, Kraig states:

"There are many uses for tarot other than giving a reading...this book is the next step in working with the Tarot."

Since I have not had a chance to read this book, or even, for that matter, to really give it a once over, I thought you might get some idea about the nature of this book from knowing the chapter titles:

Here are the nine chapters:

1. Tarot and Magic
2. Tarot Spells
3. Astral Projection, Pathworking, and the Tarot
4. Dancing With Tarot
5. The Tarot Cards as Talismans
6. The Tarot Cards and Ceremonial Magic
7. The Tarot AS Magic
8. The Tarot and Sex Magic
9. Tarot and Magic - Continual Evolution

Major Tom

I've had this book on order at Amazon for ages! Does this mean I'm actually going to get a copy?

I want this book. :)

Four Decks Used in this Book

I hope so, Major Tom. You at least know it has surfaced on the physical plane. I know Kraig for his book on Modern Magick, and oddly enough, I seem to find it at a local Borders Outlet (sells overstock and discontinued books at a fraction of retail.) I've found two copies, one just weeks ago, to replace my rather tattered original copy. It's not that I wouldn't spend full price on this book, because I would. It is a wonderful complete method for learning ceremonial magick. There are others, mind you, like Franz Bardon, or even the Ciceros' new Golden Dawn traditions, Dennings/Phillips' system, etc. etc.

But this book so far (I'm only in chapter two) is really more about magick and using the cards as a tool, than a traditional tarot book about the cards, but including magic. Kraig references four decks of cards throughout this book: the Golden Dawn Magical Tarot (Ciceros), the Universal Tarot by De Angelis, the Thoth Tarot by Crowley (painted by Harris), and for deeper psychological tapping, the darker major-only Shadow Tarot by Linda Falorio.

No, I won't keep posting, chapter by chapter. lol. Kraig is the sort of author I'd buy sight unseen, and I knew he was way into Tarot as he devised a simple seven card spread in his Modern Magick book, the design shaped like two triangles, one pointing up, the other down and a pivotal card between them. He used only Majors for this spread, and suggested that all students of magick learn a system of divination, and that Tarot was the best for that.

I hope that more books on the other uses of Tarot continue to come out in print, adding a whole new dimension to the study of cards.

Tarot & Magic

I have to admit that I'm more excited about the Donald Kraig book than I am about the Dorothy Morrison book. A friend has the Morrison book and it basically sounds like Tarot Spells with some Wicca 101 thrown in. And I can't say I'm all that thrilled by Morrison's scholarship (but this is admittedly my pet peeve)

Having taken a workshop with Don Kraig at an ATA conference I think he knows his stuff and he knows how to make it interesting. So this is definitely on my wish list.
