Ultimate Tarot Book?

Lleminawc

I'm also an admirer of Alfred Douglas's book, and the Sheridan-Douglas deck has become one of my standbys. I recently found a second-hand copy of his I Ching book, which is less ground-breaking but has some appealing illustrations by David Sheridan.

78 Degrees was the one that got me going, but the book that's had the most impact on how I relate to the cards has to be Gareth Knight's Magical World of the Tarot.

My journal ;)

I tried journaling once but the whole thing ended in complete chaos, so not my idea of the ultimate book.

I wish I could package this forum up into a book because it would be the best out there.

Oooh, thank you all for some great replies! I have a feeling that I will have to start making up a list to find some of these in a bookstore sometime...

Why do I get the feeling that this could turn out very expensive? LOL!

haha. I started totting up what I've spent on cards, books and workshops etc and it was pretty scary. And yet compared to some people here, my collection is on the modest side.

For me the ultimate tarot book is by Robert Place called "The Tarot - History, Symbolism & Divination". This book is amazing and gave my understanding of the tarot a whole new depth. Also it's one of those books that just has so much information and so much wisdom. Anything by Robert Place is a great read but this book is fantastic....check out a review at the link below.

Another great book for beginners is by Mary Greer "Tarot for Your Self". This is a workbook so it's half informative book and half personal journal. It's great for those who have trouble knowing where to start with a journal or who want some structure. Again, anything by Mary Greer is great as well. Link below.

We can live without books....but what fun would life be then!

Best of luck with your studies.

ps. This site has a 'top ten' tarot books page which you might also find helpful....

We can?! Speak for yourself! I most certainly can't, books are my 1st and most enduring passion. I am a hopeless bibliophile :)
