Transforming the Toltec I Ching into an oracle deck

La Hierbera

It's so difficult for me to find decks with concepts and images that resonate with my ancestral Mesoamerican spiritual path. Seeing images of Martha Ramirez-Oropeza's artwork in the Toltec I Ching sang to me immediately, however the I Ching does not.

Sooo...I'm thinking of scanning all 64 images to print off and cut into cards, and perhaps include other images by this amazing artist, to use as an oracle deck.

Have any of you done something like this? Do you recommend printing them off at home, or enlisting a card printing service for this?

These are a few of the images...

those are lovely, and if they speak to you it would be a good deck to make.
The problem with printing at home, sometimes the result is disappointing.
The problem with asking a print shop to print them is copyright.

That said there are a number of mesoamerican decks, these are the ones I used when that was my focus of study.

There are some more here that I can't speak for.

Happy birthday :) Bet you are surprised there are so many!

Thanks for posting all those links! :) How well did these all work for you? I already have the Toltec and Nahualli decks, and am familiar with all but the Xultun Tarot. Still....my heart chants "Martha! Martha! Martha!" ;) Looking at them I feel the warm embrace of a rebozo woven with ancestral memories and grandmother wisdom.

I didn't realize there would be copyright issues since this would just be for myself, not to sell. I've checked a few card printing sites online (very briefly and superficially) and didn't see any mention of issues along these lines. I guess I probably didn't get far enough in the process.

the ones I had, I liked very much. I did not use any of them in reading for others though, only on my blog, because I needed the companion books to get an idea of what I was looking at.

re: copyright, what you do in your home, for your own use, is nobody's business.
When you take images that do not belong to you and ask someone else to copy them you do them a discourtesy by asking them to break copyright law.

When I printed my own deck (using online resources), they specifically asked. Right before purchasing, I was required to state the images were my own. They really don't want to get involved in copyright issues.

So, they don't look into it? The question is there to protect themselves from any possible liability?
I'm now wondering about asking the artist for permission.
