I was just reading the wikipedia entry on the Biblical book of Numbers, and it contained an early illustration of Balaam on his donkey, with the donkey turning away from the angel. The image jumped out at me as the Knight of Batons - the only Marseille knight who's horse is turning back, and both the knight and Balaam have raised cudgels.

Is it likely that they share an iconographic source, or is it more likely coincidence?
