The High Priestess: w/o B+J added

Penelope

I was working casually in my Paint program and made
a few changes ~possibly actual restorations~ to the
PCS image of... The High Priestess. (click on)

Has anyone else tried this, and could you perhaps also
post your restorations here? Maybe we could discuss
The High Priestess as the card was "originally" painted.

Penelope

I've often noticed that if you look carefully at the
letters B and J you can see they are different from
the other letters in the deck, which we know are
by Pamela Colman Smith~ but these seem strange,
as if they were added later...maybe at the printers.

Did another person, maybe A.E.Waite pay the shop
to dab on some doodles to satisfy his imaginings...?
After all, nowhere else does Pam stoop to such odd
bang-bang type hit you over the head symbols.

Is this is "more like" what was painted by the Artist?

Little Baron

It does look more serene without them Penelope. Thanks for sharing. In terms of the questions, I don't know though.

Best, LB

have you seen the reptilian claw in the picture, holding the cresent moon

Emeraldgirl

I alsways thogh of it as maybe a lobster claw (wrong colour I know) But relates it to the Moon card.

With the addition of "B" and "J" on the pillars, one can be directed to the Hanged Man as a connection. (B=Beth=2 ~ J=I=Iod=10 ~ 2+10=12)

Huh?

How very odd... by the reckoning of the Golden Dawn method,
letter 12 would correspond to card number 11... but now you
have card 11 (letter 12) switched with card 8 (letter 9) which
works out that B+J=12 signifies letter 12 but card 8 as card 11.

Thanks, RChMI. You've helped me to appreciate the real HOGD.

It is amazing what each of us sees in the cards- I see a snake under her foot, not a reptilian claw( an english grass snake non- the -less :D)as to the math well BY JUPITER I get B=2 J=10=1 I get it related to 3 now which might be the Empress hanging by her pretty wee toes if THAT card 12 was reduced ... and what does the 'H' of HOGD stand for? That place that Harry Potter went to? Anyways leg pulling aside I like the card without the letters on the Pillars- looks more in keeping with the rest of the deck. Thanks for the pic Penelope ~Rosanne
