Oh wow! New faces! And old faces!

Welcome everyone who's decided to join (or re-join) for this round!

I still feel kind of strange not using my Tarot of Prague right now, since it was my IDS deck during the first round. It'll take some adjusting to, but I'll sort that out.

Welcome to the newcomers! It's so lovely to see new people jumpping on the bandwagon, and great to see old faces "renewing their vows", as it were (Hi, Rodney )

Keavy - Hi, train buddy! I'm envious of your choice of decks - mind you, I have or have had half of them, so there's no reason to be envious, is there ? Good luck choosing! (NJ, NJ!!! )

I don't want to limit my clients into just one deck (I provide a choice) and I think my readings would suffer if I use a deck I am unfamiliar or new at reading.
Hey, Allan Nice to have you! Again, I'm not professional, but Promise's comments are very thought-provoking. I understand your apprehension, and I think it would go a long way to alleviating your concerns if you choose, as Promise said, a deck that you're already connecting with, rather than a completely new one (if I tried to read for someone with the Thoth, I believe I'd go mad ). The IDS experience is about deepening your connection to a deck to make you a better reader, not a worse one! There might be some teething problems, but I think you'll be fine before too long!

-----------

I'm powering ahead, still . Very happy with the way things have been going. I've been spending some serious time on the Sixes, and for some reason they've really resonated with me. As afrosaxon would attest, I've been feeling torn lately, and the Wheel of Change Sixes are about that feeling. So I've finished journalling the cards, and after I got through them, I was still so caught up in the awesome power of this ambivalence, so I went back to Genetti's Tarot Tree and explored the Sixth Level of it.

She has organised the Major Arcana into a system that looks nothing like the Fool's Journey, but nonetheless follows a very plausible system. It forms a triangle, with the Fool outside it and yet everywhere in it, as befits him. The cards become more and more specialised as one progresses down the Levels. The Sixth Level is about one's experience of life, and two different approaches to life. I had an awesome time delving into her discussion of that, and developing her comments through my own journalling process. I want to go back to the Fives now, and work with them in that context, although I don't know that it will work quite as well.

I also designed a spread inspired by the Six-motif, and I'll try it out tonight, tweak it if necessary, and post it tomorrow. I think it will be great. It's got a great atmosphere, if that makes any sense at all.

Anyway, having a great time with you all!

Sorry, Promise, just caught this one

I don't post there, but I'd say recycle would be the best way. That way, if there's someone who wants to see how far they've come, it's easy to find their previous posts, you know? The relevant moderators might want a courtesy PM when it gets to about 1000 posts, and they might close it and open a new one. It might be best to check with them.

My mom and I were just talking about my IDS and about my initial fears regarding harming my Minute Deck, and she gave me an idea that I really like and I think I'll use. She suggested that I do a comparative study using my Universal Waite deck for most of the grunt work. Since the Minute is based on the RWS, I don't think I'll be losing anything by using both of them, and I'll at least be able to save my Minute a good amount of wear and tear.

I think I'll try it for a week or so and see if it works for me. If not, I can always go back to strictly using the Minute, but I'd like to give this a try first and see what happens.

All, take note. This is what happens when you cut and paste without fully proofreading. I wasn't drinking that day. Honestly. I wasn't.

I will try my best to do a daily three-card pull before I go to bed to reflect what happened to me during that day. I tried the next day thang and it didn't work for me.

I'll go back and correct my original post too.

I have yet to tackle the Courts, as well . . . that might be my stumbling block!

I'm not IDS'ing, but it's a good idea. I have a copy of the Minute, too, and while it's definitely up there in the 'Decks I Love to Read With' list, the cards are square, small, and totally without lamination - so you have to be really careful, especially as the deck cannot be replaced (for whoever was wondering before - there are 100 Minute decks - that's all that were ever made).

I have LoS Tarot of the Master, which I sometimes use for the shuffling part when I want to read with my Il Meneghello I Naibi di Giovanni Vachetta - those are a bit sturdier than the Minute, but still not laminated and not replaceable, so I let the LoS one (which is laminated) do the grunt work for that.

Why is it so many of the decks I love to read with are on the uber-rare list? I do tend to prefer unlaminated or very lightly laminated card stock, and good art, as well as good symbolism, and that's how it often works out. For not-too-pricey things (under, say, €25), I'll try to grab two copies, just in case. But when that isn't possible, then I'll often substitute a similar deck for the shuffling bit, and use the cards from the rare deck for the actual reading.

You can, of course, still handle the Minute cards, maybe put one on a card easel for the day (if you don't have cats or kids). But I completely understand how you feel about this one.

Well, I'm not sure if I should be posting a renewal of my IDS pledge, as I originally planned for a six month stint, so for me I'm just reaching the half way point. But I have learnt some things from the first half of my study.

1. I need to be a lot less structured about this study.
2. I need to put a lot less pressure on myself.
and
3. I need to remember this is for my own enjoyment, not for any other reason.

Hopefully this half will be easier than the first.
And Welcome and Best Wishes to those joining us for the next round of IDSing.

It is good to see the IDS thread still going strong, I read through it and I still find it inspirational, I will follow this thread with interest.
Having said that – I am not going to do another IDS. I will not flutter from deck to deck either, but I want to do a study of a few decks together, and I think that would be stretching the meaning of the IDS too much, so I will do my own thing.

I want to do a study of the Druidcraft majors + courts + Will Worthingtons Animal and Plant Oracles, maybe his tree oracle too. They are all made by the same group of people and share the same pagan theme, so I think they will work well together.
I also want to do a study of the Tarot of the Spirit, together with the Tarot of the Sephiroth and Jolanda Tarot (aka Swedish Witch). They are all Thoth-based but with different energies and I want to study the similarities and differences.
I have not decided what I will do first, both sound so tempting…in both cases, I think it would be best to start with an intensive deck study of one deck, and then throw the others in the mix later…I am excited about this but am going to think about it a bit more if this is really whatI want and how I am going to do it.
I must confess I also missed looking at other decks, if only for fun and relaxation. I think I will allow myself to look at decks just for that purpose. I will limit reading + study to the decks mentioned above so my study does not get too “diluted”.

Good luck and study fun to everyone
