Mythic Tarot - Five Wands

Jason battles with the dragon that holds/protects the Golden Fleece. As Jason approaches the dragon holding two flaming wands, the dragon belches fire while it clutches the Fleece. Behind him Medea, daughter of the King who possesses the Fleece, carries three more wands.

Dragon
  • the primitive powers of the earth, which resist change
  • guardian of treasure
  • difficulties that must b overcome before an important goal can be attained
  • one’s own bestial element, which must be defeated with strength and discipline
Medea
  • instrumental to Jason’s success
  • she knew how to find the dragon’s lair and how to overcome the dragon
  • representation of the intuition and the instincts, which one must rely on in times of crisis
Overview
  • struggle
  • one’s creative vision collides with earthly reality
  • anyone who wants to bring their creative vision to life must overcome both the limitations of practical life and one’s own inertia
  • trouble on the material level, which often coincides with, is caused by or causes a fear of failure and a deep apathy
  • one must find a way to accommodate one’s creative vision with the resistance of reality
  • the tiniest of details, when overlooked, can grow out of proportion to become a major problem
Random Thoughts
  • underestimating a task or an opponent can come back to bite you in the behind
  • coming face-to-face with one’s fears
  • hell hath no fury like a woman scorned (Medea and Jason’s later story)
