The World's End, or Is Edgar Wright About Tarot?

Mycroft

"We actually had the story for 'The World's End' figured out, and then we looked through a list of real pub names and tried to make them like tarot cards." - Edgar Wright

The World's End (2013) is the story of Gary King attempting (with his childhood friends) to conquer a pub-crawl known as The Golden Mile, which they first attempted as teenagers, but failed to complete. We have therefore, King Gary on the Golden Mile or Gary Golden, or Gold Gary. Since the symbol for gold is Au, we have Au Gary, AuGary or Augury.

The Golden Mile is comprised of 'Twelve Historic Ale Houses' and the object is to visit them all in turn and drink a pint in each. A pint of ale = pint ale = pintale = pinale = pineal.

In their initial pub crawl as teenagers they only managed to complete 9 pubs, but this time around 12 are visited, plus another one right at the end. Thus 9 pubs are visited twice and 4 only once, giving (9 x 2) + 4 = 22. All the pub signs can be viewed on this page,

I've had a go at matching the signs to the Majors, and it does help if you've seen the film as there appear to be extra clues in the movie, but there is lots of scope for different interpretations.
